LadyinDenim's Journal, 11 September 2016

Work sucked today. I was thorough, efficient, and helpful to other staff, but learned that the new management runs on nepotism. Youch. In my state, it is unlawful for a Licensed Practical Nurse to be placed in a supervisory position over a Registered Nurse.

Yet, I was staring down an LPN while he questioned my nursing judgement. He is functioning as the Assistant Director of Nursing, even though he legally can not have the title. I said, "It is unlawful in the state of Minnesota for LPNs to supervise RNs. You are calling my nursing judgement into question, and I reject your comments. I will happily discuss the situation with the Director of Nursing or the other Nurse Manager." He kept hammering away, and I had to repeat myself several times.

He was fuming as he walked off. I then learned he is the Director's boyfriend's brother.

Ugh.

Anyway, starting a 5 day fast tomorrow. Had some lettuce in the fridge and knew hubby wouldn't eat it, so I ate ALL of it. I just wilted it in a pan of frying bacon after adding vinegar and herbs. It wasn't bad at all.

Need to go finish off my paleo bread, now.

same law in Oregon and rn have to have 4 year degree to be in supervisory position. stick to your guns, my mom used to do the lettuce wilting in bacon or cut lettuce wedges and make melt bacon grease mix with herbs and vinegar and bacon bits. thought that was something my mom only did, when I mention it to other people they look at me like my mom was insane which maybe she is, they just never diagnosed her or my family !!

We used to have this pledge on a card beside each patient's bed. It's still our gold standard for our profession here. "As I care for you, it is my job to protect you from all harm. That means any harm from your illness or its symptoms, from outside forces including the care environment, and from other people if necessary, even those involved with your health care or health financing. As an autonomous health professional who reports only to senior nurses, it is my job to defend you from poor or misguided health care from any source. I am your advocate. I vow to do my best to protect you as if you are a member of my family."

Romaine and red lettuce. Shazzery, that quote is beautiful. I called an old nursing buddy tonight and ran it by her. We hadn't talked in years. It felt so good to reconnect. My new boss used to run my pal's old workplace. Apparently, their service did not overlap, so she didn't hàve intel, but she had good old common sense as usual.

Sounds like something that needs to get sorted out by a higher authority, like a regional commission. I don't know the hierarchy, but can you phone in an anonymous tip to the licensing board?

Would need to speak with the administrator first. Will see the fallout today, if any.

Whatever happens, keep us informed. I have been down a similar route myself, in the past. Led to my manager being dismissed and the HR manager "moving on".

Etkfxrwife, not sure that is the best course of action, since that is not his official job title.
