I'm sick of being a slave to cigarettes for the past 4 months, just sick of it! I've posted to quit many many times with lots of support from my FS friends but I guess it never came through, but this time it's going to be different, this time it's gotta change. I just calculated what I've approximately spent the last 4.5 months. At $6 a pack here in California, it's come out to $810 dollars!! WTF!! That's only 4.5 months! That's 8 months worth of cable/internet!! That's a whole new wardrobe for myself! That's almost 2 car payments!! What on Earth was I thinking????!!!!!???

And that's not the greater cost!

Just like dieting, you have to take it one day at a time. "They" say a smoker will try at least 5 times before being successful at quitting, so try it again!!! It does get easier as time goes on. Good luck!

Not to alarm you, but $800 is the easy part. Wait tell you get into dental costs later. I still have my teeth for a reason. I don't smoke Nuttin! Lol Not anymore. I was trying to qualify for a big life insurance policy, and smoking anything can be found with blood tests. I got the policy, and swore I'd never smoke again. I hang out with lots of weed smokers too. Lol

I had my last cig 2 years ago July 5 2014. I used the Blu E-cig to help me quit. I started with the regular flavor and after about a month I switched to the flavored ones (cherry and vanilla) and didn't have regular again. By the beginning of October, I quit the E-cig and haven't looked back since. It's cheaper to buy the rechargeable one than the disposable ones, but give them a try first if you want to try. Good luck quitting.....

I tried to get the habit when I was in my early 20s. It didn't take. I'm very lucky. I will have a cigar from time to time, cause I'm a northern Canadian. Gotta keep warm.

Here's how I quit 10 years ago after smoking a pack and a half a day for 38 years. I was drinking red wine and smoking...you know..the good cigs. I was enjoying it but I was scared that I had to quit soon because after all these years of smoking it might be too late. I poured some of the red wine into the ashtray and stirred it around with the ashes. I dipped my finger in and smeared this mess on my face and tongue. I threw up. I looked at the nasty picture of myself in the mirror and the vision stayed glued to my mind. I never smoked again and it's been 10 years. Obviously, you need to do this routine in private but it works.

I quit cigarettes 20 years ago and never had the urge to go back. What was the final straw? I saw a documentary on how the tobacco corporations projected future revenues by targeting specific age groups coupled with increases levels of nicotine (for addiction and estimates up to 10 years of guaranteed revenues). I was sick to mh stomach that I was allowing a greedy corporation to manage and run my life to favor their bottom line at the risk of shortening my life. I WOKE UP! Don't allow a greedy corporation to prosper at your expense!

Its all about survival of the fittest. A chess game. Play to win. Your family will love you. And you will love yourself. Plus you will save lots of money that you could budget towards more pleasurable desires like vacations, nice clothes, gym, and your kids future

Wow thanks again for tons of support! Warren you're right about What I'm Not doing! No extra hunger monster pains lol! Been sticking to the Knuckles 1 meal a day and my weight range has changed- plus it's super way to eat what I want, just between 4-8pm for 1 hour! The red wine face painting advice is fascinating! I shall attempt to try (hshaha) I think I'm going to Mistybenner this one and just be free of nicotine (e-cigs would still cost too much and I'm trying to be thrifty). April- coffee free will never happen in my lifetime! Hahaha! But yes as my FS wise friends say- a day at a time, will power, commitment and family First!

Good for you, Smarty! I am so happy you and Misty are trying to change your lives. It is important. It will not only change your life, but change your beautiful family's life. You can do it. I am getting such a good feeling, seeing how you, Misty, and Knuckles, are trying to change your lives. Don't take it LIGHTLY, it is very important. It is MIND over GREED for excess! YOU CAN DO THIS! Well, off my soapbox. My wife and I are watching this Jodi Arias Trial again. We have seen this 100 times. lol This crazy lady was one psycho killer! Watching 48 Hours!

Hi Warren! Thank you, means a lot coming from such a wise but wild spirit like you! Just put kids to sleep so I'm going to let my weekend begin with some ID channel myself!

I gave them up many years ago and found it to be one of the hardest things to do. What helped me was to change my routine. By mixing things up you eliminate times when you would light up. I also found that when the craving was too great I would go brush my teeth...having a clean mouth took away my craving, plus helping my teeth. Good luck, you can do it!

Good luck smartygirlca from an ex smoker. Smoked for 40 years. I finally gave up when I was waking up two or three times a night for a ciggie. Realised my addiction had gone too far. I went cold turkey. Sheer will power and wanting to be 'free'.. It was one of the best decisions I have made. My health is much improved especially my circulation. Been cigarette free now for 15 years. You can do it smartygirlca.

I know how difficult it is to quit smoking. You can do it! I smoked for 35 years, I truly enjoyed it and had no desire to quit. On May 23rd I was diagnosed with Diabetes. After a little pity party for myself, I told myself I was quitting smoking, going to eat healthy and exercise. I was a 1 pack a day smoker. I have not had a cigarette since that day. I used the patch for 6 weeks and have just completed my 1st week "solo", no aids. I crave a cigarette now and then, but just turn my mind to think of something else. It won't be easy, I am not going to lie, but you can do it :) Good luck!!
