Life isn't what you hope it will be. Life is what happens while you're making your plans. As many of you know, I'm dealing with things down south for my parents. I'm trying to move things a certain way, and other family members are trying to move them another. The really frustrating thing is, while I believe I have the right approach to the problem, and it is definitely the most conservative approach, others believe they are also right.

The fact is, until the future arrives, either of us could be right, or rather, the consequences I hope to hold at bay may never arise before the end of the road rises up to meet me and show me how foolish my plans are. Again, life is what happens while you're making your plans. I firmly believe this, and yet, we all so desperately want to work the plan until it is the pile of smouldering ash at our feet. Control is a myth.

Yeah the control is a myth is very true in my experience. With a houseful of disabled kids I make plans, they screw them up, I make more plans, oops, more screw ups. All you can do is what you think is best and then roll with it. I don't think everyone ever does it perfectly, its the fact that your heart is in the right place that counts.

Acceptance is the key - control is an illusion

My problem is I try to put out fires before they start, and you don't often know which fire is going to start. Working on it... or not.

Good luck, NM, fingers crossed for you. Just do the best you can. It's a difficult balancing act sometimes.

We can always do our best given the circumstances but unfortunately we can't always be in control... I understand your frustration, been there countless times.

Control is a myth, we have to roll with the punches. Hoping you can find a little peace in the chaos.

Praying for you and all concerned to have true wisdom in working this situation out with God's help and in God's timing....(I say this humbly...remember the Serenity Prayer...I am soooo much better at quoting it to others than following it myself.) Keep on Keeping on, FS Friend and Buddy

Sorry to hear that things are still unsettled with your folks, hope things work out for them, for you and for your family...no one can predict the future, just do your best with no regrets. Take care Bruce!!

Family situations can be the most frustrating - just hang in there and let your heart lead you - you will make the right choices, whichever way it goes.

It has to be hard trying to work this all out long distance for your parents. Life shouldn't be so hard when trying to help our aging parents. Family members who aren't willing to put in their time and devotion should butt out. I have a crazy sister causing me problems. It adds so much unnecessary stress.
