Paula - We went to Grandfather Mountain. As for the flip flops - we took the paved walk and the swinging bridge across so no need for hiking shoes, but next time I go I will be walking up the front trail (and will have on appropriate footwear).

GG - Since I wear flip flops for over 6 months of the year, you'd be surprised what kind of terrain I can cover in them. The ones I'm wearing in the pic are Rocket Dogs and they are almost as good as my Nike flip flops.

Davidsmom - Grandfather Mt is 5,946 feet high, but since we drove up to the State Park and then drove again to the "walking area" I have no idea how much of that I actually walked. I estimated we spent 2 hours on foot (counting stroll through wildlife area and gift shop). Sorry - not claiming to be a mountain climber!
