jenalena's Journal, 20 October 2015

Every day I get up and tell myself - "Today is the day. Today is the day that I will get control of my eating. Just do it. Just start!" And then the resolve wears off by lunch time, when my belly brain is calling for some sweet fatty concoction that I should not eat!

Then on Monday last week, as I smashed my squishy flat tire into my jeans and searched for a big sweatshirt to hide my newly formed muffin top... I changed my pep talk. "Get your fat @$$ into gear and shut your mouth!"

And then I decided to detox from all sugar and complex carbs for 5 days. That's all folks! 5 Days. Five days, taken one day at a time, one meal at a time, one precious hour at a time. I supplemented hunger with a new tea diffuser mug and some fancy loose leaf teas. I won't lie - the first 3 days sucked! I was hungry. I was grumpy. I had to pee every 4 minutes. I wanted a cheeseburger so bad. But then day 4 came... and it was easier. Day 5 was a blur it went by so fast. I had successfully detoxed from that junk! Hurray!

I averaged 1000 calories a day last week (which is not sustainable, I know). This week I'm literally beefing up the calories to 1400 per day with more meat. Ahh... I'm sure all these details are boring to read.

The point is that I'm on track. I'm detoxed. I lost 5 lbs last week and I'm excited to stay on track with 1-2 lbs per week of loss!!!
177.6 lb Lost so far: 41.4 lb.    Still to go: 23.6 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

I can relate to your situation in that I am a binge eater. Someone told me that it is important to remember that eating is not all or nothing - I try to remind myself to eat better more often than not and reap the benefits of that approach. Just a thought.

Fantastic start! I was like you for a long time, always going to start eating right "today", but today never came. One day it finally clicked and I was on my way, haven't turned back. Keep it up, there's great things to come!

Great to hear!! It's never "the day" till you make it THE DAY! I was in that endless hopeless, helpless place for years. December 19th 2015 was "THE DAY" and today it's 80 pounds released. I'm so happy for you. Hold on to the willingness with all your might. We think we're only going to let it go for "this one taste, bite or meal" and before you know it it's years till we get it back.

What a powerful---and empowering---experience you created for yourself, and for all of us, in your willingness and honesty to share it! Your success with those first three (hardest) days will grow. Keep telling yourself, "I'm all in!" Celebrate yourself each and every time you make those choices that support your healthy goals. It changes everything . . .
