I finally got below 170 lbs, yay! I though it would never happen. Even though it's not much (169), it's a start.

My GI doctor wants me, for now, to eat approx 1300 calories a day. This is the first time I've ever monitored my caloric intake, and I must say it's been an eye opener to say the least! When counting cals, I have to stop and think about every bite going into my mouth...not fun, but very effective. Really makes me stop and say, is this worth eating? It's going well, except for that darn delicious Nutella... Why do they have to make it so smooth and creamy and chocolatey and wonderful??

Good for you!! I can't have Nutella in the house or I would eat the whole jar myself. For me the longer I've gone counting calories the easier it's gotten, so I hope that is true for you too. :)

Nice going. Nutella would be a killer for me, I'd eat the whole jar.

WTG! Always nice to move into a new 'decade' of weight -- particularly one we've been 'estranged from' for awhile!

I do want to eat the whole jar, lol! But since I'm counting calories, I grudgingly measure it into a little bowl and have a cup of coffee with it... It's my little escape :)

Dieting isn't hard. Last year I bulked up to 200, now Im at 152 muscular and lean. Guess what I still eat Chocolate, sweets, pizza....etc. The idea is as long as you are in a caloric deficit you will be losing weight. But it becomes a matter of choices and struggles ; hmm I can eat a whole banana or sweet potatoe and feel pretty full or eat half a twix or a spoon of nuttela. Do I eat this delicious huge slice of pizza at 500 calories or eat ( Banana 100, Grilled chicken breast 150, 2 pieces of wheat toast 100, salad 40, greek yoghurt 100= for about 500 calories as well ? ) Sometimes When I feel the urge to eat delicious non healthy food lunch, i follow my urge but know damn well it will be a very small dinner Aside from lifting, the other thing that helps me alot is playing sports ( or any cardio). Because days Where I have a soccer game I know I will be burning an additional 600 to 900 calories. Which makes some room for me to eat a decent size of icecream, cupcake, muffin...etc. Also I do something called Intermittent Fasting. Love it. Eating at a deficit will make you lose weight. Especially in the beginning stages. Once you become leaner it is harder to lose weight especially when you are at a 10% body fat or lower. At this point eating at a deficit alone wouldn't be very sufficient in losing weight. Here you start counting your macros. Your protein, carbs, fat ...etc. Any edge you can take to losing fat helps. Intermittent fasting helps alot in that regard. Eating late at night before going to bed is a no no no no. I usually stop eating about 8 pm and go to sleep on an empty stomach. Combining that with "IF fasting" always makes me break through weight loss plateau. This what works for me personally. I do recommend it to people. But again each person is different and might not be for you.

Max-0 you hit the nail on the head! Once you start considering calories in your food choices it makes it easier to eat that sweet potato vs. that half of a Twix bar.

hahahah so agree with you with the Nutella, I stop buying it so I avoid that temptation. and yes counting cals is an eye opener, it helped me to figure out my portions and what foods are good and which are not so good. I did it for a whole month, after that you know what you can without going over your intake limit. for me it was stressful having to count every single calorie. good luck

Exactly. If you go in with the right mentality dieting could be a fun adventure rather than an uphill battle. I'm not saying it is sooo easy neither. There are days where my will beaks and I cave in for choclate( I have a sweet tooth) in large portions. I just try to get back on track quicker. The fun part comes from trying to find foods that are low in calories, taste delelcious and fill you up so you are not hungry again within minutes. I just had lunch. 4oz salmon 200, half a large sweet potties 100, creek yogurt 80, 2 slices wheat toast 70,and salad with no dressing 40. Large glass of water . About 500 calories meal and I'm FULL

Max-o - what you said is so true! Thanks for the advice about the macros, too :) Counting calories is def about making the right choices, and you really learn how to eat right AND be full, instead of simply filling up on empty calories. I'm glad my doctor suggested it, it seems to be working thus far.
