I know its really hard to get to goal. I have the same choice as you in regards of getting the sleeve done. What my nutritionist spoke to me about is I can get the surgery but that I need to be committed in showing that I have committed myself in to living a better healthy lifestyle. If I were to get the surgery and not learned how to eat better. I would put back on all that weight. I did join weight watchers meetings. It really helped to stay motivated. There are weeks where I only lose 1/2lbs. They still congratulate me on my loss. Hang in there, just take it slow and you will get there.

Any loss it better than none, or a gain. Small changes...set a goal for the week: maybe eat no candy or no sugary desserts. Maybe eat no sliced bread. Maybe don't eat after 7 or 8pm...something that seems achievable to you, but would help you slowly work towards your goal. Add things on as you progress. Good luck! ;)

If one eats like a fat person, one will look like one. It requires discipline and learning to say NO. To be thin, eat like a thin person. Start by going to places like Whole Foods and watch what the skinnies put in their grocery carts. They don't go to McDonalds or Pizza Hut.

One thing about surgery is that even with it, you'll have to change your eating patterns and habits. Initially that my be easier to do in the sense that after surgery your stomach doesn't hold as much, but over time if the person goes back to their old habits the stomach stretches out and nothing has been gained. The weight comes back. So either way changing eating habits is really the key to success and you can do that without surgery. A suggestion - I see you're not logging food online. Logging your food is critical to success no matter what your diet plan; it's the only way to get an accurate handle on what you're putting into your body. I'd suggest you figure out a recommended daily allowance of calories that will give you a daily caloric deficit sufficient to lose weight, have an eating plan to meet that RDI, and log everything you eat. If that's too much to do all at once just do one thing, one change, for the better. Then add another change to it, etc. Wishing you great success!

First I would like to suggest that you keep track of your food every day. That helps you to stay on plan and also to keep focused. I don't know what you eat, but I saw a 1000 calorie challenge. That may not be enough for you. See what this site suggests for you and try to stay within those limits. Look into the low carb lifestyle, eat healthy whole foods, stay away from refined stuff, cut out white flour and sugar. You will fill up faster and stay full longer. Be sure to get protein too. Dieting, starving yourself, only leads to failure and giving up in the end. Just a thought....wishing you success.

I agree with Gigi39... do some research into the Low Carb/High Fat diets... quit all sugar, starch and grains.. eat whole foods.. non-starchy vegetables, good proteins like meat, fish, eggs, and good fats like coconut oil, olive oil, butter, nuts and avocados... Fat will keep you full longer and that will keep you from overeating, so no binge eating or counting calories... there are better ways to do this than surgery and IF your friend continues to eat like she did after the surgery or once her body repairs from the surgery, she will regain all of that weight again. It happens to everyone who has ever had those surgeries and gone back to eating the way they did before. LCHF can be sustained for life. It is just making up your mind to have better health and sticking to it.

Can your doctor recommend you to a dietician who will work with him and you to personalize a plan for you? I did that in January and it has made a huge difference. It's very hard when you have glucose blood sugar issues to find just what works. (((((hugs))))) and prayers that you feel better soon and things will start to go in a better direction for you.

With any surgery, there is a chance that something can go wrong or the after effects weren't worth the risk. You are doing it the right way. Yay You!! We all know the weight didn't come on overnight and it won't go away overnight.

you say you keep eating the same foods. Have you tried changing your diet??

I am sorry you are feeling so discouraged. I hope that you are able to listen to some of the great advice that the folks have given you here and work some of it into your daily life. I especially second what jmb said about having to make the eating changes whether you have the surgery or not. A friend I had not seen for a while saw me and asked me to tell me my secret for weight loss. When I said that I had been eating much better and exercising, her face kind of fell, disappointed that I did not have some magical answer. But I will tell you that all your hard work will be worth it when you feel not only healthy, but proud of yourself for accomplishing your goal. Good luck to you.

Was your friends surgery invasive? Is She happy with the results? Can a person maintain easy after the sleve?

Hi, Harley. Yeah, it can be hard going, eh. But even small changes of weight can reap great benefits for your health. I can't tell you how many times I've started a diet. Once I even lost 30 kilos, but it all went back on, and then some! Now I have a diagnosis of pre-diabetes, and there's nothing quite like seeing it in black and white to highly motivate someone to completely change her lifestyle!...lol. Just try to do it one day at a time, Harley. And I don't think having surgery is "the easy way out". Personally, surgery would be my absolute last resort, and only if my weight reached a life-threatening level. :( You CAN do it, Harley. All the best.

I know 4 people that have had some type of gastric surgery. All are 2 years out. All lost lots of weight in the first 6 months. 2 of them still throw up once a week for no apparent reason. 2 never changed their nutrition lifestyle.... still ate pizza and cookies and soda... just less of it. They both lost over 150 lbs each...they were females and down to 140 (5 feet tall) and 190 (6 feet tall)... both are over 300 lbs now and growing as they have either stretched their banded stomach or popped the 4 rows of stapling used to decrease the stomach size. Focus on your nutrition now and you will get lasting results... you can do it!! It is easier than you think!

I agree with most of the comments up here, surgery is a last resort. Weight loss is really 20% physical 80% mental
