wholefoodnut's Journal, 08 September 2015

Dang just heard on the news that over 50% of the US adult population have high sugar levels and are either pre-diabetic or diabetic. That's incredible!!!!

Getting back into the workday routine after the long weekend and running off to the woods. Had a good visit with family and friends but left the get-together before the food was ready @ the BBQ yesterday for the usual 2.25 hour drive home that with the holiday took 3.5, lake traffic from 4 lakes heading back to the metro.

It was too hot and humid to do my workouts as DD's AC went out on Friday night, 95 degrees and very humid was too much for me for a workout. It was nicer outside than inside so we spent most of the weekend outside. So back at it here shortly after a few chores.

I'll try to catch up on posts the best I can -- no guarantees. Hope everyone had a terrific and safe weekend and mostly stayed true to your plan. Personally I didn't track, didn't eat that much but drank more beer than I should have, expected that so all good.

I came home with a few pounds of lake catfish, though we didn't go fishing as it's not very good at the moment. SIL had saved me some from a few days ago.

Break is over.

Yum . . . catfish . . . more than one catfish restaurant in Augusta serves it with a side of grits (and hush puppies, of course).

Welcome back Jeri. Sounds like you had a great time. Shame about the drive home 😞 Good for you to have a break and a change of scene, and to see family, and to drink beers 😀 I don't think I've ever eaten catfish, or grits. Hush puppies? They are shoes, aren't they?

So glad you had a pleasant weekend and got safely home! You are very consistent so missing a day or two pf TRX is no big deal.

Leigh, I'll have some catfish for dinner tonight then have to freeze the rest meal for one packages.. Grits? haven't had any for awhile, might have to get some one day soon, they aren't as popular in northern Missouri as they are in Georgia. I keep running into shrimp and grits recipes that look yummy. Heidi hush puppies are from the southern us. Basically fried cornbread fritters instead of baking the corn bread often with just a hint of onion. So yummy dipped in a bit of honey. I was expecting the traffic, If I would have used my brain I could have avoided the worst through one town and gone the business route through town instead of staying on the highway. HCB an ab workout on it last night it felt good to stretch this body out some. Glen, laughing, my house had AC . No AC just put a damper on exercise and didn't help the sleeping, I like cool at night.

I think I need to spend some time in the south trying the food. It sounds quite exotic!

Glad you had a good visit even if it was hot. I was expecting heavy traffic on the ride home Monday but surprisingly it wasn't too bad until we got closer to the DC area, but even then not as bad as expected. Back to the routine, have a great week.

Grins Heidi, depends on where. Now Spain sounds interesting to me. Jim, glad your traffic wasn't bad. Mine started further on than I expected as we saw pretty heavy traffic going north on the highway after the am small town parade and we were heading back south to DD's. I did get gas for $1.99 on the way so a plus, filled up.

Everything in the South is smothered in grease. I can never find anything to eat there. Sorry to hear about the A/C - hope you have fans.

@soonsoonsoon -- Respectfully disagree -- you can find some great, non-greasy food in the South . . . shrimp 'n grits, low country boils, okra, stewed tomatoes, black-eyed peas & onions (over rice), lima beans, collard and mustard greens . . . just to name a few good dishes. Not everything is 'deep-fried' down here!

Agree 100% Leigh. Just in the little cafe's it might seem that way. I've been in "The South" a lot in my life and much food in Missouri is influenced by the south. Also along the coast amazing seafood, inland fish: catfish, bass, crappie, and perch. BBQ and smoked foods of all kinds, lots of greens, wild mushrooms in the spring. Red beans and rice, Cajun sausages, on and on.

Krazycat, thanks, just a couple days gone. figured I'd have time in the am's but that didn't pan out. One morning was hectic as we had to get to a parade where GD was a queen candidate for the festival another I ended up on a ladder helping SIL put up new guttering. Smiles-- that was ify as on the first cup of coffee at that point but he needed extra hands and I volunteered; also was the only other person out of bed yet. LOL.

Catfish is a very mild fairly firm white fish. It is similar to tilapia, swai, and bass. If fresh and you cut off all the red meat it is not at all fishy.

Sounds good, and I'll take some of that non-greasy Southern food. Yum!
