HCB's Journal, 17 June 2015

Hey my Buddies:

I hope everyone is having a super week! The "Idiot Box" was down 1.2 pounds today - but I am waiting to log on Friday or Saturday to see if it is a "real" loss. I have been diligent about keeping my total carbs very low this week, so it may be paying off. We shall see!

I made some yummy fat bombs with coconut oil, grassfed butter, almond butter, dark cocoa powder, coconut flakes, nuts, and a little sucralose. I simply pour the "batter" into an ice cube tray and freeze. Once I pop them out, I store the bombs in a plastic bag in the freezer. Nice portion control since the serving is the size of an ice cube!

Words of the Week:
"Frustration is the first step towards improvement.”

I am dedicated, determined and diligent.

I added walnuts to my last batch, toasted them first, they were awesome. I never think to toast the nuts. You are in the home stretch.

@Glen: fat bombs as I make them are about 100 calories with 3 carbs, 3 proteins and about 10 fats. It works well on the low carb, high fat plan.

Sorry but that sounds terrible way to much fat my cholesterol would go way up and I would gain lots of weight.

@ Daisey B: I used to think the same way until I researched and started the ketogenic approach. It is high healthy fats, moderate protein and very low carbs/sugar. The body uses all the fat for energy - instead of sugars. becuase it metabolizes differently, it does not impact cholesterol - in fact, people have better numbers on the ketogenic approach.

I understand but having taken a lot of courses in anatomy and physiology I know that you have to eat healthy and carbs are what your body uses for energy it is only when you eat to many carbs that your body stores them as fat. I will stay on weight watchers and eat a well balanced diet with some healthy fats but not to many. I gave blood the other day and I got my cholesterol results and I am down to 170.00 this is from about 230.

Those fat bombs sound yummy!

Daisey, this approach works well for some. For me those fat bombs would make me sick, my body doesn't like that much fat. Nichol, toasted nuts are awesome it brings out the flavor, I toasted some walnuts last for on top of an avocado egg salad. Delish!

What do fat bombs do for you?
18 Jun 15 by member: Karenka2012
@Karenka2012: fat bombs increase the healthy fats for the day without adding sugar or carbs to the food plan. And, they taste yummy like you are having a treat. Ketogenic approach is about using the dietary fat for energy and then burning your body fat stores rather than the sugar from carbohydrtes.

But it sounds like you wouldn't "need" to eat the fat bombs if you just swapped out all the steak/red meat for leaner and healthier fish or chicken. I dunno, it just sounds like extra calories & fat when trying to keep the count under 1300/day. However, if it works for you, awesome.

Apparently those who are commenting about "all the fat" do NOT understand the LCHF Ketogenic approach to weight loss. Perhaps you could GOOGLE it and learn more about it before passing judgment. I am happy DaiseyB has something that works for her - THIS is what works for me.

HCB, you know I support all of you who are using the LC and it's working. I do understand it even if my body didn't like it much.

WFN - yes! I know you understand "to each his own" theory! LOL

Lchf has worked awesome for me, helped with my health issues significantly as well. It's tough to let go of that fat is bad mindset for some people. They haven't read all the new research about dietary cholesterol and the fact that the body doesn't prefer any one food, it is an incredibly built machine that will use whatever you give it. Everyone fuels differently to meet their health goals. rock on HCB.

Fat is needed by the body and especially your brain to function properly. I've never thought low fat was good for anyone.
