hobobeaver's Journal, 05 February 2015

Almost 3 weeks into my new way of eating and I have already gotten too comfortable with "thinking" I know what I'm doing. :o) I am finding that water really is important to losing & that I really need to enter my meals in order to ensure that my fat intake is higher than my protein. Yesterday I actually had higher protein than fat & that is a no-no. We have been told for so long now to eat low fat that it's hard to make myself deliberately eat more fat. One good thing is that I get 1/2 an avocado a day. Healthy fat. I did find a good sugar free bbq sauce on line & it was pretty darn good. "Guy's Award Winning Sugar Free BBQ Sauce". It comes in 4 flavors and just 1 carb per tablespoon. It will be a staple at my house.

Thanks everyone for your support. It really makes a difference to come online, keep track of meals, weight, writing in a journal & reading all the encouraging words of people that have experienced some of the same things. It's the best I have ever felt when trying to alter my lifestyle. Thanks again.

Sounds like you're doing great. We learn as we go, figure out in time how to do this and what works best and you're doing it. :)

Oh how I can relate to that! Been doing low carb for 3 years and still haven't got it right. And thanks - Will watch for that BBQ sauce - nice to get a different taste every now and then.

Not to argue with a "Buddy"...but it seems to me that as long as anyone is continuing to be open to learning ("teachable")...then they haven't become too comfortable with "their way of of thinking"...Someone who was NOT open to learning would NEVER write a post this HONEST. Keep on Keeping On !!! And thanks for your example and your words. :)

Just a suggestion... Don't go to low on protein. Protein is what feeds the muscles. Not enough protein will cause you to lose muscle weight as your body will burn not just fat but muscle. I try doing atleast 20-30% protein per my caloric intake....Your doing great otherwise. Keep up the awesome work :)

The BBQ sauce sounds good, but Amazon wants $9.95 ($18.77 / kg) + $8.57 shipping. Yeah. No. I'm too cheap for that! LOL Where did you purchase yours?

I think it happens to everybody when you start losing. We become complacent and we lose focus. Logging the food is the best way to keep me on track and make me think every time I eat or want to eat. The the scale will give me a wake up call every time I get on it.

I bought it today on Netrition.com It was $3.49 with a flat shipping rate of $4.99 so I ordered other things as well as some for co-workers. And sarge, not to worry, I keep my protein up, it's just that it's supposed to be lower than fat on the Atkins diet. I do better when it is. Thanks for the comments!!!

I'm an Amazon fan and usually able to find things cheaper, but Farmlife is right... it's ridiculous. Almost the same price for shipping. Going to check out HB's connection. I love BBQ. Thanks HB.

It is a total learning curve! I think it goes in cycles and yes, when we get comfortable, that is when we tend to mess up. Congrats on your progress. I love this website for the tracking and the support.

I'm a big DIY'r, not everyone is or wants to go to the work involved sometimes in making stuff. BUT....considering the cost of getting it online, here's a list of the ingredients from the web. Might be interesting to experiment making your own?? Ingredients Statement: Water, Tomato Paste, Cider Vinegar, Lemon Juice, Vinegar, Salt, Modified Cornstarch, Onion, Caramel Coloring, Garlic Powder, Cayenne Pepper, Smoke Flavoring, Xanthan Gum, Cinnamon, Sucralose.

You eat a half of avocado??? I wish I could, I like avocado in salads and in different recipes like tacos. But alone I want to make myself like it...do you eat avocado just by itself? I actually have one at work with me right now.... Btw that's awesome! keep up the good work! I also make my own bbq sauce because its hard to find any in a bottle that's healthy, I might try the brand you mentioned..

Panigale, I love avocado sooooo much that I slice it up on a plate & add a little salt and white pepper and chow down. Usually though I'll make a little salad dressing with it adding a little mayo & salsa. I really like that.
