jmb3450's Journal, 16 December 2014

I succumbed to a Krispy Kreme chocolate glazed doughnut this morning, and I didn't even really enjoy it. What a waste of calories and not the way I wanted to start the day. At least they're on the first floor of our new offices and I'm on the second so won't be too hard to keep away from the danger zone.

Exercise continues to go well, I definitely have more stamina and can maintain a higher heart rate while breathing easier than I did a few weeks ago. Still no weights for any real weight training but starting tonight I'll do some strength/resistance stuff like push-ups, squats, crunches, leg lifts, and isometrics. I'm thinking probably a combo of 25 minutes of cardio and then the other exercises, will do that 3 days a week and an extended cardio session only 3 days a week. At this point Wednesdays will likely be my day off since I'm usually at church until late.

We got Keurig 2.0 coffee brewers in our new offices and since I'm the "coffee guy" who collects the funds and buys the supplies I'd already bought 2 80 count boxes of 3rd party K-cups, decent coffee at about half the price of branded K-cups. Problem is the 2.0 brewers won't work with 3rd party k-cups. There is a hack for it, I cut the rims with the logos off a some used cups and have them taped under the scanner, now the machines will use whatever you put in them.

I'm off to schools to fix some IT problems, have a great Tuesday.

I have an older Keurig and I think it's so silly that they did that!! I mean, TONS of people were buying them and the variety with the different coffee brands is amazing....silly silly....

Socolova - I think Keurig may have shot themselves in the foot with these new machines. What they want to do is force people to use Keurig licensed products which they get royalties or payments on. But they're alienating customers, Amazon reviews are 2 stars out of 5 because of the restrictions. You can't even use the old style insert to use your own coffee, you have to buy a new one with branded top. There's many other options for coffee-by-the-cup brewers and Keurig is pushing folks away IMO. Thanks Bill - I figure any strength type exercise is better than none, it'll be a start at least. Hope you're feeling better.

You are doing good Jim, you can always do a count down, 10 push ups, 10 sit ups, 10 dips, then 9 then 8 you get it once you hit one you start your back up.

Thanks Rockiesfan, that seems like a good approach to doing it.

go slow for starters - rockies suggestion is a good one. Krispy creme can be tough to resist, for sure - but yeah, in the end, you end up feeling a little "dirty" and need a shower. been there.

I could easily eat a dozen krispy kreme donuts by myself, so I applaud you for only eating one!

Thanks friends. The doughnut led to eating a few other things, then my wife had smokies wrapped in crescent rolls right out of the oven when I got home. So just salad for dinner tonight. Calories are very close to RDI but higher in carbs and fat / lower than normal in protein and fiber. I appreciate the suggestions on exercise.

Well you might have enjoyed the donut but I sure did enjoy the description. Sorry you couldn't share the calories but heck it sounded so delicious. Savor those times and then you can move on . Have a great day.

Good job on hacking the kcups. I am lucky my old brewer doesn't have that scanning technology. :)

Good for you on the donuts, I feel the same way. Donuts nw actually give me a stomach ache. They bought a keurig for our break room as well but we still have the normal big coffee maker thank goodness, we don't have time to wait on coffee. I refuse to spend all those $$$ on individual cups. I have old Melita one cup coffee maker and an espresso machine if I want one cup at home-- they use regular ground coffee. Mostly I use my 12 cup one.

Those Krispy Kremes will get you every time, they look so good! Thank goodness there's not a store within miles of me. My nearest temptation and downfall are DQ Blizzards. Passing it twice a day is a daily challenge I've been able to say "no" to for a few months now. **Knock on wood** That's a good idea in changing up your workout routine. Think I'll incorporate a few new things in mine as well as I see some parts not developing as much as others are. Thanks for the idea!
