BuffyBear's Journal, 29 April 2011

This is a reminder to myself to get my rear in gear! I've been slacking off. I need to start all over again - plan menus, shop, cook and freeze individual portions.

Fortunately, DH loves most of the same foods I do - I just add a side dish for him (potatoes, rice, etc.) - I absolutely refuse to prepare two menus.

Happy Friday to all.

I agree about planning. Sometimes I get lazy and don't plan my menus and then find not only do I struggle with what to cook, but I end up spending more money with the "little" trips to the store. You Can Do It BEAR!! I know you can... you have lots of love and support here, so hop back on that train! Have a wonderful weekend.

C'mon BuffyBear....you know you can do this!

I think it might just be a seasonal thing because I too feel a bit lagged this week. Don't get me wrong - I've been 100% but just not feeling it. We need to remind ourselves why we are doing this and just do it. And once we do get out of it, we'll be flying high.

Keli - look at the load you have been carrying! No wonder we have to stop and shift gears every now and then. New month begins Sunday so it seems a good starting off point. Take care.

Oh yes, I didn't think of that. Yes, Sunday is the beginning of a new month. I am (right now) going through some new recipes I found and trying to come up with a wonderful shopping list. Will try and do all my cooking tomorrow and Sunday. Oh yes I can do this! Who's with me?

I'd better be with you (if I know what's good for me)! By the way, do you have a recipe for homemade sausage? I love sausage but have a bad reaction to nitrates and would love a substitute.

BuffyBear...You might also look for sausages by Applegate Farms. They are nitrate- and nitrite-free (except for that naturally occurring in parsley). They are also gluten- and casein-free, if that's an issue. Their chicken and apple breakfast sausages are really good, although on the pricey side - when you can find them. Each link is 50 calories and 1 net carb. Ingredients are: chicken (vegetarian grain-fed), dried apples, water and less than 2% of honey, salt, spices and parsley. A previous store had them in the refrigerated area but I've most recently found them in the frozen section.

Sorry but I don't. But you might want to check with Stef. Stef knows everything.

I love your motivational reminder to yourself - how true for me as well. I get lazy sometimes & think I can wing it, even though I know I can't - not without a plan. It's not like I can swing by & pick up a pizza for supper - those days are gone forever & that's a good thing. I have started freezing some of the leftovers (sometimes I make double batch just so I can freeze) for emergencies; some things have done better frozen than others. Anyway, you have inspired my to look at all those recipes I have printed & wanted to try. Have a great weekend!!!

Sandy - will have to look for that brand (Applegate Farms). Oscar Mayer has a nitrate free hot dog but they have 3 carbs each. Thanks again - you've given me quite a collection of tips.

Hi Buffy I thought I commented on your journal earlier today. So here I go again. I do agree with you on not fixing two menus as one is enough. Have a great day honey and sorry I didn't make it sooner. ....Bren

Steph - Keli says you know everything (direct quote). Can you help with homemade sausage?

Good plan Buffy. Today is always a good day for a restart. Stay strong and let's do this.....

I restarted last week good luck! Better to restart than quit...My fiance is the same way i usually just make him a side that i dont eat also making 2 meals and shopping for 2 diets is a pain and can get pricey. Best of Luck

Lily - Yes, that is one of the things I love about low carbing. When I was eating fat free I had to cook separate meals because no one would eat my stuff - looking back, I don't blame them.

Tracy - thank you, as always, for your encouragement. Look foreward to hearing a lot more from you in May - because I am also in need of ramping up my exercise - (something you could coach me on).
