Weighed in last night and lost 6.6 lbs in my first week. I was very suprised at how much I lost. Don't get me wrong, I was happy..beyond happy. But is it okay to lose that much so fast?

It depends on how much you have to loose. The more you have to loose, the faster it will come off in the beginning. For example, I've seen on weight loss tv shows, people with 100+ lbs to loose will drop 10 or more lbs in the first week, especially when they're most motivated about their diet and exercise. Great job, keep it up!!! :)

Hi there Jmolynn2, I'm not an expert, but I know it depends on what your current weight is... in other words, the more extra weight you have to lose, the more you can lose each week. I checked out your calorie intake and it looks like you are staying above 1200 calories per day, which is good. If you eat below 1200 each day then your body believes it is starving. If you're still worried about how much you are losing at this point, you may need to consult a Dr. just to be safe. But looks like you are on the right track!

(Also not an expert) Many times when we first start out it's a lot of water weight that we lose... not all of it but some so our loss at first seems a little larger than we expect and we get kind of excited about how easy that was. The bad thing is that we don't maintain this high rate of loss and when the loss slows down, it can affect our emotions. Sometimes it's not the number on the scale that matters as much as how your clothes fit or how many inches you've lost. Be sure to take measurements and record them somewhere so you have something to compare to when the scale isn't moving but your clothes feel looser. Loss is loss and you're moving in the right direction and that's definitely something that should make you happy!

Great job! And if you have any concerns you should ask your doctor. I always make a list of any questions I may have and when I have a checkup I pull it out and get answers.

You'll lose more quickly in the beginning. A dietician/nutritionist told me years ago that fat cells had to shed their excess water in order for stored fat to be metabolized. Plus taking in fewer calories should mean less glycogen in your system and that means less water. Great first week, keep it up!

Yes, a change in diet usually leads to a large amount of water loss the first week or so. It will slow down so enjoy it.
