Update bio time! I just turned 40, a week ago, and to celebrate I went for a 14-mile jog...chock that up to more physical fitness s##t I couldn't do when I was 30. My weight hovers around 170, give or take 2-3 lbs. I am physically active: up at 4 AM, M-F, to hit the gym or go for a run before work. Plus, I run at least one day of the weekend...my Springer is my alarm clock and insists on running.

Other than attempting to regulate how much I consume, I don't really follow any diet plan. I still eat, I still drink (someone say beer?), I just try not to enjoy too much of a good thing. Most importantly, I try to make it a point to burn more calories than I take in...sometimes not such an easy task.

My fitness goals are simple: continue to improve my fitness. I want to lose the rest of my gut and replace it with a different type of six pack.

Any academics out there?
Focusing on fitness is easy; it's working school into the schedule that tends to be the problem. I'm in my first class towards an M.B.A. If I'm lucky, I might get an opportunity to do school while at work, provided there is no actual work to be done. Sleep tends to be an issue: since I'm up at 4 a.m., M-F, I shoot for getting to bed no later than 10 p.m., which gives me an average of 10-hrs sleep a night. On the weekends, with this past weekend being an exception, my goal is to get in a good run before doing anything else.

What would you tell your 16 year old self?
I would tell my 16-yr old scrawny self to get into the gym and never stop exercising. In junior high and high school, I was always playing basketball at the town park, so I got plenty of exercise. But, somewhere along the way, I stopped. I would tell my teenage hard-headed self to listen to the adults (parents, included)...some are smarter than you think and are only looking to keep you from making stupid mistakes. I would tell myself to get my head out of my ass and apply my brain in school...it really pays off in the future. But, as they say, "Live and learn..."

What time do you work out?
M-W-F, I am up at 4 in the morning to be at the gym by 5:20 at the latest. Tues. and Thurs, I am up (hopefully) at 4 in the morning for a run: usually 6 miles, unless running for time/speed, then it's 1.5-miles. If I am unable to get my ass out of bed on run mornings, I try to make up for it in the evening. At least one day over the weekend, I'm up between 8 or 9 in the morning for another run...this time shooting for 8 miles or more. Always on an empty stomache.
