2ManyCurves's Journal, 14 September 2014

I have not been real diligent about keeping up my journals and I have not been real diligent with logging food or making good food choices. Working full time while attending some pretty challenging pre-med courses has been kicking my butt. It is not an excuse for eating crappy. My weight is up and my hips don't lie. So, there is no time like the present to do better.

That being said, I am incredibly proud of myself right now. I completed my first sprint triathlon this morning. Yes, it was only a sprint distance, but transitioning from swimming to cycling and then to running was a feat. Top it off with 46 degree weather this morning. I nearly backed out several times. These events are crazy expensive and I used a dilapidated old 70s model Schwinn that I fondly named Christine after the Stephen King novel. My Christine has a mind of her own and enjoys throwing off bike parts in rougher terrain. It wasn't pretty. The swim was equally as poor. I had trained for swimming and felt strong going into it, but with many competitors there were a lot of waves and I may have drank a gallon of water or two, which worked out well since I really didn't have to worry about hydration during cycling or running. All this while sporting around in a triathlon suit. I felt like a bag of potatoes. If you have body-image issues, wearing a triathlon suit to swim, bike and then run with all of your lady-parts a bouncin' may well get you over modesty.

As many times as I nearly backed out, I am so relieved that I did not allow self-doubt to overpower me. Persistence and determination got me through. I've come a long way, baby. This year included completing my first half marathon in over 15+ years, my first full marathon and now my first triathlon. I am no where near my *goal weight*. I had carefully calculated once that I would be there by October 2014. It doesn't look like that is going to happen. And, I don't know that I am all that terribly upset with it. I think I am just going to keep moving, keep striving to be stronger and faster. I'm having fun. And, maybe that is more important right now than what the scale says or the tag in my clothes.

I'm thoroughly impressed. Your sense of humor and self-acceptance are CERTAINLY valuable things to have gained from this experience. No matter what else happens or what others may say, NO ONE can take that away from you! Well done!!

Your last paragraph said it all. Having a goal is definitely planning but accepting that life is good enough where you are is winning. Well done.
