Help! I am still trying to figure out my macros and calorie intake! I know it seems late in the game. But if I go too low, it seems my metabolism slows down. If I eat starches, real carbs, breads etc. same scenario. Or maybe I am imagining it. That's why I was trying to implement hi / lo days by dividing my weekly calories up. Not working. Well, too early to tell. I'm not even sure what the starting #'s should be? I am 40 years old and 5'4" around 160 pounds! Any thoughts?

I think our bodies have a mind of their own. Darned if you do and darned if you don't. Just when you think you have it figured out, wham you hit another wall. Just enjoy the times when your body cooperates and be patient when it wants to slow down on you. Sooner or later your body catches up and all of a sudden you get a good bounce down and you'll be wondering why. Just keep swinging away.

I totally agree with Chillie Willie. Our bodies are unique as are each of us. I am personally trying to just work with my body, accepting where it is on a given day and hope that that love will convert in to the release of unneeded fat/weight. My struggle is to focus on the positive and let go of the rest that doesn't serve me. You are doing really well, Tulipgirl. Hang in there, your body will let you know when you are not serving it.

If you go to low in your calorie intake, you will send your body into starvation mode and you will not lose weight. so stay within your minimum range and keep carbs to a minimum but never totally cut out any food group.

You don't have that much to lose, just use portion control. Cut your bread intake to one meal only per day, and you should be alright.

oh thanks guys! I am just overwhelmed with everything right now! kind of bummed about dog sitting and not being able to go away this weekend! Maybe I can get my niece to walk the dog and we can go away? no that would not be right . . .. OK so I actually don't have any bread; except rarely! I have 2 corn thins around lunch time instead! I use veggies for carbs, no pasta either. I actually don't have beans legumes for the most part either . .. . Yes I have to go back to where I started. PORTION CONTROL. and now that I've added exercise it has to work! I still have a long way to go but thank you! good luck to us all! Our bodies are unique and each day is unique for them also!

I have had really good luck with the resources on freedieting (dot) com if you google 'free dieting macros' the first entry should be their macro calculator and the second their calorie calculator- the calculators are really helpful but even more so is the information included with them to help explain. Good luck!

I recommend under 100 net carbs a day, at least 100 grams of protein a day, as many veggies as you can eat, lotsa water (plain if possible), and regular exercise (at least 5 days a week). Don't worry about fats, except for those in processed foods, which you should avoid too. Consistency is very important. Good luck, and keep us posted!

christy that is pretty much what I try to do! your message the other day was also great; I am the kind of person who if I have a craving I'm better off just having it, otherwise it won't go away; I think I'm genuinely hungry today; maybe it's the new workout schedule? it's my trainer's anniversary so he cancelled tomorrow, but we're going to try to maintain a regular schedule despite the back to school and holidays and things next month . . .

Just do all you can, and make minor adjustments to be healthier, and then let your body respond to your actions. There's no sense in getting mad at our bodies for not responding how we want it to respond, because we don't have actual control over our body/how it'll respond :)

Sticking to low glycemic veggies and fruits for at least a couple of weeks has helped me, as well as getting enough protein, and staying under RDI, to stimulate losing weight. Add to that drinking plenty of water and exercise. It doesn't even have to be hard exercise, just move, Dance, anything that moves you. Again, every body is different and what will stimulate one body to lose weight may not be good for everyone else.
