Spent the entire afternoon laying out and planting my vegetable garden. I planted 12 tomato plants, beans, peas, zuchinni, watermelon, 2 packages sweet corn (2 varieties), cucumbers, spinach, 7 dahlias and 4 packages of zinnia seeds. I still have to plant my dill. Hubby wants some butternut squash. I have some potatoes that are really late going in. I think those I am going to try in a potato tower. We still have some space to plant more things in the garden as well. I think I got up from my computer planning out the garden at 11 am. I drove into town (5 miles away) to get gas for the lawn mowers and garden tiller. When I came home Hubby had the garden completely tilled for a second time. We started out laying out the rows. I came back into the house at 5:30 pm. Long day out working out side. It was beginning to thunder as I came in. Now it is getting a nice rain shower...perfect timing!
I also spent some time weeding in my strawberry bed to get out of the direct sun for a bit. Sense of accomplishment is through the roof that I got it all done.

You go girl! My garden is the pits! Nothing is surviving. All my seedling are gone. I'm going to have to buy some.

We have had a bad spring. It went right from snow to torrential rains with almost freezing temperatures that would not quit. Hubby managed to till the garden once but then the rains came back before we could plant it. There were finally 5 days without rain...so we could get back in the garden. Then to get it planted right as the rain started falling again. I feel for the farmer...they cannot get their fields planted.

We were slow getting out stuff in the garden. Disappointed that my broc have gone to seed already and they never matured. About 6" tall. Note to self not to buy from Lowe's again. Got stuff there last year thinking it was cantalope and had a crop of cucumbers.

Way to go!!! Busy day! CR I never plant broccoli, most the time it gets too hot too fast here in Missouri and it always goes to seed, gave up years ago. My gardens have baby plants coming up as well as some plants in.

We planted broccoli last year. Hubby ate quite a bit from the two plants we put in. Without knowing it though we planted cauliflower right next to it. We did not know that they should not be grown by each other. This year he didn't want to have either of those...so we declined those. May put in some radishes or some short term crops to fill in garden. Now to have my sunburn heal...Haven't seen much sun around here lately. Was cloudy most of the day. Guess the sun screen did not work like it should have.

K... what happened when you planted them next to each other?

The cauliflower never really produced. The broccoli did ok the way it seemed. The cauliflower was all the leaves and plant but did not want to make a head.

Sometimes they will cross pollinate.

We have maters growing in a dry sink next to our hen-&-chicks succulent plants. We've tried 2 garden spots since moving here 10 yrs ago, but deer eat everything before we can. Now we're planting some stuff on our back porch which is a wooden framework covered in heavy clear plastic, so it's basically a green house. The old gent who lived here before apparently used it too, as it already had cold frames, pots, twine, etc. At the time we thought this was bc he was too old to plant out on the property. Now I think we know the real reason, LOL! Our whole place is basically a deer trail. Maybe that's why the creek we live on is called "Deer Creek" ~ Ya think? Ha, ha! So far I've planted green beans, peas, cukes, radishes, chives & basil. I think I may add bell peppers & that will be it for this year.

I got the butternut squash tonight...also some acorn squash and some green peppers...all for my hubby. I don't eat any of those things.

Planted the rest of the veggies tonight. Garden now complete. Some of my seeds have already sprouted. They just went in on Monday and on Thursday were visible. That makes it all worth the effort. Now to get the strawberry patch weeding done so I can put the netting over it. They are blooming like crazy! Last night Hubby found that we have raspberry bushes growing on the very northern edge of our property. They are currently in tall grass, next to the field that the farmer plants. Now we have to hope that the spraying that they do in the field do not kill the raspberries. Also found another gooseberry bush by the raspberries.

I love home grown veggies, and you sound as though you have all the right gardening essentials. I would love to own a tiller.! Well done! ☆☆☆
