Just a quick update....came across this on facebook and thought it was neat...there was negative feedback on it in the comments on fb, saying that no matter how much exercise you do it won't get rid of the trans fats and other damaging things like cholesterol....but I think that's kind of missing the point...I feel like this is a great way to dissuade yourself from eating crap :)

The calorie intake versus the amount of work it takes to burn off those calories is ridiculous. It definitely makes you ask is it worth it. I mean something that you enjoy for a few minutes but has such lasting and damaging effects. The other thing is that if you look at this list someone may eat at least three of the items listed here in one day. I know in recent years I used to polish off a large pizza without blinking(cheese only if that helps). And look at me I'm still trying to get those Lbs off today.

That was my point exactly, Chica! We think "Oh, its just one doughnut and I've been doing fantastic lately", but the effort to work it off could be put forth into dropping weight.

We all have to be honest with ourselves and be accountable for what we eat, like you said, Ask yourself, is it worth it/ how will you feel about yourself, afterwards, for letting yourself down, care about what goes into your body , your the only one that can stop your hand going up to your mouth , opening it and putting it in. Make sure only the right stuff , gets past your mouth.

I agree---- ask youself is it worth not being able to move, bend over and tie my shoes, walk from the car to the store. button my pants etc Just remember how it felt, because it will come back if you do what it takes to get it back

Agree 100%. I'm definitely more mindful now...and, frankly, some of the food I used put in my mouth (mostly 2nd and 3rd portions) just ain't worth it! :D I heard someone say once to make every bite earn the right to be on your plate. What is it doing for you? If you're not eating to live then maybe you're eating to NOT live...(longevity and quality of life).

LuC2 - What a great quote! I'll have to keep that in mind moving forward when fixing my plate!

I love water aerobics and the instructors but the best part is visiting with the ladies. They are a riot to talk to. I always leave there smiling. Plus being in an indoor salt water swimming pool. oh lah lah.

I read somewhere that the FDA is moving to have chain restaurants post something like this instead of just the # of calories for particular items. I guess psychological studies have suggested that people are more likely to make better choices when an actual physical activity is presented, rather than a meaningless number. Also, LuC2 & kitty, I have been trying to get into the mentality where I think of food as fuel. How much fuel do I need for the day i.e. how much activity. And there is DEFINITELY regular vs. premium fuel too and they will affect how your body runs! :)
