SherrieC's Journal, 08 April 2014

Good afternoon all, Once again I have a question. I am pretty sure I already know the answer but just want to confirm it.
Do you ever feel so hungry all of a sudden, you just start eating anything you see in the fridge? Kinda like you feel sick in a way, until you eat, but when you do eat, you find yourself so full because you realize that you snacked on like 4 different things at once.
Like I said, I think I already know the answer but was just curious to see if I was alone in that.
Oh BTW, FINALLY the pizza is gone, no more in the house for me to eat, thank goodness. Hope everyone has had a great day !!!

Sounds like bonking and then eating too much.

You betcha. Actually I was going to comment on your journal yesterday but wasn't able to get back to it. Your journal today made me think of the same thing. What I've been trying to do (with reasonable success) is keep stuff available that's good for nutrients. I can still have the 'not so great stuff' but only after I've eaten something on the healthier side. For the pizza situation - a few weeks ago I had a similar situation. I had a LARGE very low cal salad before hand and ate much less of the meal (it was fried shrimp). For the gotta eat NOW I try to take a portion of what I'm going to eat, put it in a bowl and go to a different place. Sometimes it's a hard boiled egg. Sometimes it's 1/2 cup edamame or a small green salad. When I get that hungry EVERYTHING looks good and like you, I eat too much too fast. If I make myself slow down and eat mindfully it seems to work better.

It sounds like you let yourself get too hungry and then overate when you finally got to eat, for one of three reasons: you ate too fast because you were so hungry and you weren't able to hear your fullness signals in time, you were eating to make up for not eating, or both. It happens to me whenever I let myself get too hungry, so I try not to let that happen. No biggie. Just move on and continue with your day :)

ABSOLUTELY .... JUST THE OTHER DAY I POSTED ABOUT IT... LOL JUST HAVE TO WAKE UP OUT OF THE STUPOR AND PUT ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER TO GET AWAY FROM THE FRIDGE... SOME THINGS ARE SO INGRAINED IN OUR BRAINS THAT WE DO THINGS SOMETIMES WITH OUT THINKING ... GOOD LUCK!!

Of course, and I feel so gross afterwards! Sometimes I don't eat and I go grocery shopping and plan to cook a healthy meal, but I get side tracked and go through the drive thru and get some really unhealthy choices. Then I eat bad the entire day because I'm like eff it! Just get back on the wagon and try not to let myself get too hungry so it won't happen again.

Christy, I think you are right. I was with my best friend at court all morning long. By the time I got home I was just so hungry. Thanks Lovies10, and MarieRemie, I understand what you mean, and thank you for your support. Vickie the sad part is I have veggies already cut up in the fridge, but still had to eat that last damn piece of pizza before it went bad, knowing I had chicken cooking in the oven. JParlett, gotta laugh at that one. Thanks again everybody, glad this question went much better than the last one. lol

I was actually just writing on my journal about this very same thing. I get extreme hunger and it seems I am blind to all reason (hahaha) until I get rid of that hunger pain. I have been reading a lot of literature on Leptin and Ghrelin, 2 pesky little hormones that most overweight people have out of balance. Its that imbalance that makes us eat so crazed some researchers say. So much to learn about the body.....so many fat cells to drain! :0)

yes, I have this problem at night. Still battling what I call "the hungries" every evening after 9pm. Frustrating. I can wreck my whole day and my Points right then.

I open a jar of pickles and the chewing seems to take it away.

I was out pretty much of the day and was starving. I stopped at Subway and ate a 6" sub, no cheese. My son had Taco Bell and I wanted that soo bad. But now that I'm full I'm so happy I chose Subway.

Bruschetta Jack cheese from Sargentos is my snack when I feel like that. And fat bombs in the freezer. Thank goodness for both!

Low blood sugar can cause exactly such a reaction. Common reaction of your body to refined carbohydrates.

I get that way when I do not eat enough smaller, regular snacks! Then all of a sudden nothing but the junk speaks to me. I am trying to keep less of the temptations around the house but when you have kids and husband it is harder to do. Sometimes if I know I ate a decent snack and am hungry for no good reason I will drink a large glass of water then go brush my teeth. Something about toothpaste kills your taste buds so nothing appeals!

No, I never ever feel hungry. I make myself eat before that happens. A bit of cheese, an egg, a slice of grain free soda bread. The idea is to have snacks ready. A hint about feeling faint I read was to drink a hot cup of broth. I have done that a few times, it was great worked, I used beef cubes. You could be lacking in salt too. Drink more water.

Sometimes I just feel so hungry so I just eat a small snack and wait to see if I still feel hungry or not.

Sounds like blood sugar issue. Hypoglycemia - your sugar suddenly drops and you feel like you will pass out if you don't eat something right away. Keep nuts or hard boiled eggs around. The protein helps to stabilize your sugar. And fill the fridge with good snacks and don't even bring the bad stuff into the house!

When I feel that way, it's usually because of too much carbs and it triggers carb cravings. I don't get that way in ketosis.

At 4pm everyday. I binge on anything i get my hands on wherever I am .

Namramn eat a healthy snack before that 4 pm munchy hits. I'm also usually starving by then but my body needs some fuel, my lunch at work is at 10:30 or 11. In my plan I have a peanut butter sandwich (usually really thinly cut dense homemade bread) so basically one slice of wholegrain bread a tsp of natural, no palm oil just peanuts peanut butter and sometimes a piece of fruit. Sherrie, does it happen at a certain time during the day? If it does you can plan for it and eat something shortly before. I try to plan for my afternoon have to eat something because it has been 6 hours since lunch and no time for a snack in between most days.
