I have worked out why I am gaining weight! All due to my misconception of how much a tablespoon is! That is where the mayo comes in Stef LOL.

I love my mayonnaise, and tonight I got two small bowls and in the first I put MY tablespoon of mayonnaise. In the other one I measured an exact tablespoon... lets just say I am totally embarrassed! It was 3 times more!!!!!!!!!!!! And don't get me started on the freakin butter!!!!! And not only that but I had picked the wrong thing to substitute my mayo for in the diary and instead of 70 calories a tblspn, it is 120ish!

I did today with the right amounts (ie way too much) in the diary and ouch it is over 500 calories extra even without the mayo on my eggs for supper tonight LOL. Now wonder I was NOT losing weight. Yikes!!

I reverted my rdi back to 2000, gonna measure EVERYTHING from now on and will be wearing the dunces hat and sitting in the corner for at least a week! Or maybe the stocks would be better, then you could throw all sorts of rotten veggies and fruit at me - just not mayo!!

*skulks off redfaced and smacking myself mentally*

Squiggs, I'm the same when it comes to mayo! I think if I can fit it on a tablespoon it's a tablespoon! Lol so what I do is make sure I don't use all my carbs in a day just incase! Lol in fact I like salad cream much more than mayo and think that's what got me to the weight I was to begin with! I had salad cream on every thing! Even roast dinners with gravy on them! Oh yum! How I miss salad cream! Lol

Not sure what salad cream is...??? but great lesson learned, Squiggs. Do you measure other things? Do you have a kitchen scale. Sometimes, especially w/ veggies...I have to laugh when the chart says 1/4 cup serving and I measure it out! I used to give that much to my toddlers on their highchair trays! Now, I might serve myself 1 1/2 cups of the same and think of that as a normal serving. But then I need to X 6 to the carb count! Oh well, some things will only be VERY occasional! LOL!

Honey, don't beat yourself up over it. We all try to eyeball things out and over shoot the measurements. Until I got my scale, that's what I was doing. Occasionally, I will eyeball out my portions and it's still off.(usually when away from home to eat). I am very proud of you for being able to figure this out. If it had been me, with all the stress you have been going through, I would have quit a long time ago. See how very strong you are?:) My hat is off to you sweetie. Way to go!!!! Measuring and weighing is the trick, so can't wait to see your numbers drop. Have a great day sweetie and great work.:)

It can be so hard to understand what a serving is....I measure and weigh everything now, because to me a 1/4 cup just doesn't sem like it ought to be enough. My dh is always washing the measuring cups....the best thing that I bought for myself last year was a digital food scale. Wow, I was overestimating how much meat weighed and underestimating how much things measure! Who would've thunk it. But now you know, and that mistake won't happen again! At least you figured out what the heck was going on with the weight. As Laurie said, a lesser woman would have just given up months ago, but you are SQUIGGS, the survivor of earth tremblors!!!! Paula, I suspect that salad cream is Miracle Whip.

Geez, I thought I wrote your entry!!! I have done exactly the same thing. Hence the total reeval for the new year and back to basics. I also got a food scale ($20 bucks at Target) that does the trick. It calculates grams or oz and can calculate the tare (subtract the weight of the cup before you put in the food to measure it.) I try to record all of my foods in oz now for the most accuracy. Yes, still need the spoons for the yummy mayo!

i was the same way - thought i knew it all until i actually started measuring and actually seeing what a serving size was - yikes! best $30 i spent was on a digital scale. i measure everything and i mean everything. sometimes i will measure my hubby's meal just to show him what a serving size is - he usually eat 2-3 times that amount but he doesn't have a weight problem - so unfair!! good luck going forward - you can do it!

ROFL exactly Leanne!! You know what? I woke up this morning and now that tiny amount of mayo is NOT worth 120 calories to me! I guess we won't run out of mayo fast any more LOL.

Jsfantome - Yeah I do have a kitchen scale - a very cool one but I wasn't using my measuring spoons - lesson learned!!! LOL. I weigh my veggies, especially when it is my brocolli and cauliflower mash - too hard to eyeball it when it is all smooshed up LOL

Healthybabs - Glad I am not the only one!! Your digital scale sounds like mine - I love it! And I use oz too even though usually in NZ everything is grams. Ounces are easier to remember LOL
