RiverRes's Journal, 07 March 2013

I need to start looking at my journey differently. A week ago, I was excited thinking that I was going to break through that 190 barrier and start back down the scale. And then I "hit the brick wall". Not a bit of movement on the scale.

Is it time for a re-evaluation? The nutritionist I spoke with warned me that I made need to change things up. I list my diet here as the "Ornish Diet", but I don't follow Dr Ornish's diet strictly. I do watch what I put in my mouth and I am extrememly aware of fat content of food, but I do eat meat.

Am I too impatient? I am still losing weight, I just wish the rate was higher. And I really want to leave the 190's behind me. Have I fallen into a rut?

Lots to think about. I think I know part of the answer. I have been stressed. Utterly, terribly, keep yourself awake at night stressed. And Lord knows that lack of sleep is not conducive to attitude or your overall health. I have been so busy at work that I don't have time to read journals or journal for myself. I barely keep up with entering foods and excercise logging.

Excercise helps with stress, so I want to keep up with that. I want to continue to focus on watching what I eat, but I think I want to explore what changing parts of what I eat will do to my diet. If I can still keep the fats relatively low, I want to add back more lean meat. I want to kickstart the weight loss again so that I can feel like this is working.

Off to work! Have a good day!

Sounds like we're both at the same wall, just different parts of it. I have been stuck fluctuating between a 5lb area. I have added a new class and have kicked it up in my other classes too. I do believe though it is my lack of 100% commitment to watching my food. The key word that stuck out in your journal was FOCUS and that is what I need to do. FOCUS & RE-COMMIT to this plan, which I know works. So thank you for reminding me of that!!! We can do this, over that dang wall adn on to the next phase!!!! Woooooooooooooo!!!

From you chart, you look like you are losing fine. We don't lose every week on our weight loss journey and those who do are very lucky. There are weeks of loss, gains and staying the same. I know people who have stayed the same for 7 weeks but they went down a couple of sizes during those weeks. You might wake up tomorrow with a nice loss. Just because you don't see the scale move doesn't mean something is not happening in your body. Stay consistent, but try new things if it makes you feel better. You are doing fine.

Paula, you are doing so absolutely fabulous in your journey I think the only reeval you may want to do is finding more ways to relax and regain your sleep. The amount of stress you handle is awe inspiring to me but nothing to sustain. Adequate sleep will help with your hormones and in turn your healthy weight goals. You're doing very well and I'm inspired by you every time I read your journal. Am glad you found time to give us one today~ I was about to send out the ransom. As you remind me from time to time, I'm going to remind you - think of last Aug and reach those lovely slender (yet muscle building arms) around yourself and give yourself a hug (or at least, an armpit, LOL) and a good strong pat on your back.

Oh sweetie, lack of sleep and stress can keep your body from letting go of weight, definitely. Like Suzi up there said, you can go some time without losing pounds but you'll notice your clothes get bigger, your undies start to get baggy, your rings are looser, etc. Just because the pounds don't shift at a steady pace doesn't mean things aren't happening. Try to reduce your stress (not easy I know, and I also know it's easy for me to say, but if there is anything at all you can do every little bit can help). Try to set aside a bit of time for yourself, by yourself, to do something soothing and quiet if that helps-or turn up the stereo and scream along to "Superbeast" if that's what floats your canoe.
