tina10915's Journal, 03 January 2013

So I have never been this depressed before. I hope 2013 gets better. Don't think I can have much more of this craziness. Well on a positive note, I did journal yesterday and I didn't eat much so I was able to record everything that I ate. Can't do much exercising right now but at least I am eating properly. I am, however, trying to get more veggies into my meals. I am so hooked on all the protein and not eating enough of anything else. When I go to the store tomorrow, are there any vegetables I should completely stay away from? I would love to have some raw spinach for sandwiches, or some tomatoes. Anyway, I am glad I made it through last night and I am now on my way to recovery.

I'm so sorry to hear you are so depressed. I hope things start to get better for you soon. As for veggies, yes, please, eat veggies. You need to stay away from things like corn and carrots but indulge in those green, leafy veggies. Raw spinach is wonderful! Broccoli, cauliflower and green beans are great as well. Even the tomatoes are good. When you make your sandwiches, make them a lettuce wrap and they eat almost exactly like a sandwich. Good luck and I hope you have a great day!

Tina hang in there. Your atkins diet will also help to take the depression away. I find that moderate amounts of veggies are good (no corn, peas, potatoes) but in the beggining most of your food should come from meat, cheese, and eggs with 1cup of lettuce. You can do this!

Thanks! I really like lettuce and spinach sandwiches. No bread. Don't need or want it. Will get through this~

I saute hamburger meat with spinach and taco seasoning, then use it to make lettuce wraps, or sometimes use the low carb tortillas. I sprinkle on some shredded cheddar chees and If you like guacamole, you can add guac and sour cream and some black olives. yummy, filling and low carb. I battle depression sometimes and have learned the hard way that I suffer from The Sugar Blues (old book out there explains it). Already one week back to the Atkins way of eating and I am feeling happier, more clear thinking, and energy coming back.

Also, if you get some full sodium beef broth, drinking that will help with the headache and "atkins flu" symptoms. You can do this!

Tina, I also have a hard time with veggies :( I was never offered many as a child so got used to never eating them...to me they are gross. However, now that I am 40 ish I make myself eat them just because I know I need them. And I was very surprised that I have actually come to like many of them :D I would have NEVER eaten broccoli before but after a few times making myself eat just 1/2 cup I actually don't mind them now. You can do whatever you put your mind too! You seem like a strong motivated person and your still here so that says something too :D I remember my mother always saying, hang with those who do good and YOU also do good :D I found that to be SO very true in just about anything as I grew older. Keep hanging out on the site and in real life hang around people who can cheer you up/make you laugh, not bring you down. Hang in there! Were here for you!

Thank you all for helping me through this day. I had ribs for dinner and I am drinking lots of water. Going to go get some veggies and seasonings. That taco lettuce wrap sounds delish!! I really have to get creative. Slowly I will read what is being posted and get ideas from that. Kildayan, thanks for your kind words today. I love lots of veggies, but I like them dipped in something. Being on Atkins, there is not much to dip them in. I will learn though. RiverRes, Thank you. Faith is there and breathing. Stacyowens, I will try the broth. I looked and mine has no carbs. I was hoping for a few but that is okay. I have some green beans and other things to get my carbs from until I go to the store. ElizabethEl, Thanks for the receipe idea! Sounds yummy!! Dinner tomorrow night! 2toofat, Thanks for answering about the veggies I can eat. Grocery list is made.

You might be able to find a Ranch Dressing to dip those veggies in. There are some Ranch's that are very Atkins friendly and taste great!

Tina, so happy you are caring for yourself!!!! My kids are grown now, so know how you feel. It is now "me" time. Good job on the treadmill!!! I bought a $100 stationary bike. I could hardly ride 5 minutes. But now I am up to 35 every night. I MAKE the time! I also bought a weighted hula hoop. ($20.00 at walmart) At 50 (something)years old I learned how to hula hoop! I LOVE IT!!!!!! I started my weight lose journey in March of 2012 and I have lost 40+ pounds!!!!! I am very proud of my efforts. As you are proud of yours!!!!! We have to stick together in this journey. You will succeed!!!! Good luck!!!!
