I feel like a fraud—I have eaten terribly for the last month or so. I’m up almost 5 pounds after hitting my goal 2 weeks ago (my birthday and 4th holiday didn’t help) I shouldn’t give anyone diet advice haha! Maintaining is definitely harder because I feel less motivation and can’t find a balance. I know how to lose weight but maintaining the weight loss is a new beast. Any advice for maintenance??

You are doing fine! Perhaps your weight right now is your "true weight" ?

I honestly have a lot of experience losing weight, but zero experience maintaining, so no advice. Just wanted to say it seems very common for people to relax and "let their hair down" after they reach a goal they have buckled down and worked hard for over time. So i think a little bounce is normal (not fraudulent)! Now that you have had a little fun, get back to it (is what i have heard). Get it girl!

If you are making keto lifestyle your long term life plan make sure you have keto alternatives when you are going to need those treats. nothing is better than having good for you treats to keep you happy. variety of meals too. I am looking forward to playing around a little more with recipes when I get to my goal.

Change the perspective a tad... don't view it as if you've "arrived" but rather concentrate on adding health value to your life. Keep food as a "constant" and increase a change other things, i.e. when you drink water, at what time of the day you eat your carbs, parking further away at your job, carrying a copy of "War & Peace" wherever you go (weight), etc.

Although I’m nowhere near maintaining yet, when I do get there I’m just going to weigh daily. Once I see the scale move too much I’m going to know I’m either over eating or over indulging on carbs. I think 5 lbs is normal. Just make a few adjustments and you’re going to be fine. Not sure it’s true, but years ago I read something about once you gain weight, the fat cells stay with you always. So although we may be skinnier now, any bad choices we make, those selfish fat cells are going to be pushing their way to the front line to fill up and ruin our lives. Good luck in the coming weeks, but I know you got this!

One way is to lose weight in a way that you can maintain it. For example: lose with a calorie deficit and then try to find the amount of calories that you can take without gaining it. Fatsecret can help you tracking the calories and being aware of them. On a long term you will get a feeling for how many calories are enough and then you can do it without fatsecret.

I would go to a Dexafit place... if there is one near you... This way you can get your exactly resting metabolic rate. If you have that you can know exactly how many calories you can eat to maintain your weight. Another tip is.. if you can do it... eat once a day... I only eat breakfast.. I still have another 20 pounds to go but I discovered eating just a breakfast but taking in your daily requirement for that one meal actually makes you quite energetic throughout the day and it's next to impossible to eat more than your daily requirement for maintenance in one sitting unless you decide to eat complete garbage... you can the slowly transition back to 3 meals a day

Anything I read about is concentrating in eat more calories step by step and then you'll find your own balance. For me maintenance is sometimes a little up in your goal, sometimes less weight. Is like a range of weight

Don't beat yourself up. You have done great things. Just remember from whence you started and don't want to get there again, even for a short visit. Do not think "diet advice" think life changes. Just like getting on a bike and riding each day, this is another type of skill.....

You sound just like me. I know how to do it. I reach my goal and then I sabotage myself. I know what to eat and what not to eat. I have been smoke free for 10 years and was an alcoholic for 12 years, and been dry for 8 years. But the food just won't let me go free. It is true we are our own worst enemy.

I have maintained for several years. First, find how many Cals you need to maintain, then set a range for your maintenance weight, and navigate that range. 2 KGs range: I.e 65-67 KGs. When you exceed 67, this when your alarm goes off, and you cut a little to get back to your range. The range allows you to eat more on holidays, special occasions and so on. Ideally you should be on the lower end of the range to allow yourself room to eat on these special occasions. Weight loss/maintenance is a never ending war. You'll gain a little, lose a little for the rest of your life (Just make sure it's a little). It's the price you must pay, but It's WORTH it.

You have made amazing progress - we are all human and not perfect by any means. I know that I just keep being accountable for my food - measure and weigh, portion size. Meeting with a nutritionist was really helpful as to how to have a WOE that works everyday. I make little tweaks here and there based on how I feel or what my upcoming plans are. Remember to be kind to yourself and that we are here to enjoy our life on this journey. I wish you the best on your adventure.

Time to set a new goal! Log every day, still, and set a weekly exercise goal, that is my advice, having not lost one pound all month either!

Wow, thanks for all the great gems of advice - these should help.

I agree with Tahoebrun’s advice.

My best advice is to hang in there and keep on doing what you did to loose the weight. If you were logging a lot continue to do so. I do my maintenance here and yes it's just as hard as loosing weight...

I know, maintenance is hard, try to add calories little by little, I am adding 200 more calories to my diet every day, I am still losing a pound every 2 weeks, but I also increased my weight lifting 30 minutes( I do one hour 3-4 days a week now ) , I am not gonna lie, I have bad days too, for example Monday and yesterday I had 550 extra calories, I am trying really hard to do better today. count your calories, every single bite, it helps a lot, even when I can not stop eating bad it helps me to feel me guilty haha . Good luck girl 😊

@momma6224, You are entitled to indulge a tiny bit, just get back to your workouts and proper eating quickly as not to form a bad habit. You only slipped up because your b-day, and 4th celebrations. Its difficult when persons around you are celebrating and eating anything they desire with reckless abandon, while you have your mind set that you can't....In reality though you can eat anything within reason and in moderation. Just make wise choices, it comes down to discipline and will power. Additionally, remember a woman's hormonal balance will effect weight at times as well. 5 pounds may seem like a huge amount, but it can come off in a day or few....just depends on a persons metabolism. I sent a response to your latest communication ....!!! I'm still cheering for your successes..... ;D

I am the opposite, I seem to be maintaining my weight easy! but can't seem to lose as I was... So I'm just eating balanced meals it's keeping steady but slightly losing in variations of ounce at a time. 1300 calorie for myself. what was your calorie deficit? Sounds like I could use your advice on how to lose.. 😀

You’ve already accomplished a mental hurdle most people can’t or won’t do. Now you have to maintain the same mental strength and find your break even calorie intake, and go after it the rest of your life. Good luck you’re half way home.
