Hermiones Mom's Journal, 03 March 2017

I think I'm really back now. To be honest, I feel kind of crappy. I'm sure it's because these kidney stones are still rattling around in there, and for some reason, even when I'm not in significant pain, I just feel crummy. And have the people I know are ill at the moment, recovering from replacement of various body parts, so all round it's kind of depressing. I'm trying to get my act together to do a solid month or more of staying on program, so that when I go to Louisiana on vacation, I don't start out feeling bloated up again. So... I don't want to whine too much so I'll say goodnight. Sandy -- I'm thinking about you.

I know what you mean. All I want to do is sleep and, even when the pain isn't acute, there's that dull ache. I wake up feeling crummy and go to sleep feeling crummy. We'll work on this together. Food is going to be a real challenge. It seems the healthiest foods are highest in oxylates. Hang in there! Hugs!!!

Yes -- not just the healthiest foods, Johanne, but all the low-FODMAP IBS-safe foods. It's very frustrating.

I don't have to worry about FODMAPS (all my bowel issues went away when I went gluten free), thank goodness, but with new food restrictions on top of the many I was already living with, it's hard to know how to get proper nutrition. I'm right there with you!

Johanne -- it's COMPLICATED! I have now found two herbal teas that I like and have checked all the ingredients to make sure they have no bad side effects, so at least I have something to drink besides water. Remember that when you add lemon or lime to tea, you are adding citrate which fights kidney stones. I am also going to start trying to make my animal protein portions smaller but upping my salad and veggies. Of course, there's only about 4 vegetables I can eat that are neither high oxalate or high FODMAP. It's a nightmare.

I am so sorry for your ordeal. Stay strong, it does get better if you follow the diet.

Hey -- I have two good friends with serious autoimmune disorders who must take Humira and a cousin with sclera derma and leukemia. By comparison, this is a walk in the park! I was just feeling whiney today.

Hang in there it's really hard when you have a medical problem. I never expected it to be so difficult when I had the ankle surgery but I'm still in pain and swollen and I've put so much extra stress on the other foot it hurts too. But I'm told all things take time. I hope your healed soon. We all have whiney days.

Time indeed. I'm trying to be patient with myself. I feel a little better than I seem to have gotten my eating back under control.
