Kppgreen's Journal, 24 May 2016

'Holy sh!t" is what I said when I stepped on the scale this morning. I knew there would be a bounce back, but 2.2 pounds? Wow! I even kept my kcal under 500 yesterday; mct coffee, stock and soup was all I had. Ugh.

Not going to let this get me down. I will continue to remind myself that during a water fast the body is breaking down fat and damaged cells. When I start to eat again the body needs to replenish and rebuild. Hopefully I won't continue to spring back tomorrow and so forth.

I had my MCT coffee this morning, water only during the day and going to have my 500 kcal dinner like planned. I was really hoping I would be able to eat normally on Wednesday, but now I'm not sure it is safe. I'm becoming afraid to eat.

I don't have a way of checking BF% at home. I can start recording my waist measurement every few days.

You expected a bump, don't let it throw you :) You did take in sodium ...which is part of eating. Sometimes we get so excited to see the new low number, we are super hopeful that it won't go away! I see the lows as drops...then there are a day or three of settling. I record the low because that's the way I'm going!!Positive affirmation here :) Don't be afraid to eat, your just going to stay on course and have gained great experience.

Thanks Becca. I decided during my lunch that I have nothing to be afraid of. :) Sounds silly, but true. I will eat my normal breakfast tomorrow and have a 'normal' day tomorrow. I'm going to let this ride out the rest of the week as originally planned. Everything should level out. Besides, I'm still planning to do this again next month. I need to learn how to do this. :)

@jimmiepop: Water. Kppgreen, look at your foods leading up to your fast. If they are hyrdophilic and attract water, you could be setting up conditions where you store some additional water during fasting. If and when you fast again, see if there is a change in foods and how it affects your fasting.

Interesting Mahjohn. I wouldn't have thought about that. This may be too much for some people BUT... Would an enema or colon cleanse be useful for that?

Hard to say...but I see where you're going and could be on to something. Would be interesting to see a comparison of a few fasts where weight gain is apparent...followed by fasts with the same foods preceding the fast, combined with a colon cleanse/enema at the start of the fast. *note: Not a fan of cleansing, as there is no benefit to them...this is purely conversational to determine if water retention by foods leads to weight gain during a fast.

I love reading Carmen1098 posts. You are a refreshing part of this site! The internet is worth all the dumb stuff if I can read your take on what we think is normal in the US. Keep it coming! Sorry if Okie doesn't always translate to, well . . . anything.

Carmen: you are such a pleasure. :)

Knuckles: Thank you for your encouragement. There is always a fear that the conventional wisdom will be correct and that fasting for three days will ruin my metabolism and I'll struggle even more the rest of my life. I can easily handle a little water weight. :)

You don't need to worry about that Ma'am. your metabolism is just fine. People have fasted For FAR FAR longer and are just fine. you are doing everything right. you will find as you keep going with IF that it becomes easier and easier. its all cyclical. Water weight, fat burn, energy levels. They ebb and flow. Its like sound waves. For every peak there is a trough. If it wasn't like that, there would be no change in anything. you are doing just fine ma'am.

@KPP That whole metabolic damage thing is total BS.

KP, I've found that keeping a spreadsheet and monitoring average weight over a week makes it way easier to keep your head in the game. I've learned to expect daily glitches for absolutely no reason. Sometimes there's simply not an answer to the question. It's about the time in. Trust the numbers. Get a caliper and use it. It's stable regardless of 'weight'. I'm a daily weigher. I don't expect a fall in weight daily. The body just doesn't work that way.
