Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 04 April 2013

Day 4 of Madness and I'm ready for my straight jacket. I didn't get a workout in like I hoped. I did panic and hyperventilate. I wonder how many calories that burned. Yesterday the sitter had a doctors appointment so hubby had to pick up little man at 1 instead of me picking him up at 5:30. Should have been easy. The 9 yr old was there to change diapers, make bottles, and she's pretty entertaining to little man. It would have worked.. If hubby hadn't been so stressed about everything, moved logs with the skid steer for an hour before picking up little man and hadn't doubled over from pain in the driveway on his way to his truck.

I can be pretty calm about this now but at the time.. I'm pretty sure every co-worker heard me on the phone threatening to call an ambulance. Last thing I want to hear is hubby calling me gasping and telling me he can't pick up little man because he can't even get in the truck. It's not the first time. The first time he was in the middle of a 100 acre field doubled over in a tractor. Who knew a Ford Escape could offroad so well! He's had scans, exrays, blood tests, etc. The doctors can't seem to figure out what it is that does it. I took him to three doctors still nothin. I suspect it's the crap food, soda, the extra weight he's carrying around, the stress, the lack of sleep, and treating his body like Craaaaaaap. He's in denial. He drinks 3-4 sodas a day.. he says he only has 2-3. He will have a sub for lunch then go back a half hour later and make another one but says he only had one. He refuses to eat anything green... You get the idea. Luckily the sitter's 15 yr old daughter was home on spring break so she watched little man till I got off work. Then hubby was saved by his field partners being at the house so he avoided the lecture.

Chores were late and slow, I found out he wasn't taking his meds for his joints which probably didn't help anything so off to the pharmacy we went at 8:30, then I wasn't cooking so next was mcdonalds, Like thats healthy! But.. it did give me a glimmer of hope. He ordered his usual meal, regular not large, skipped ordering extra nuggets like he had been doing. In the past it was a large #3 with 10 nuggets. Maybe not being able to take care of his own son woke him up a little?

My plan is to treat hubby like a toddler. He will get spinach. He just won't know about it. He will get veggies.. he just won't know about it. I will pureee, hide, substitute things into his food he never dreamed of putting in his mouth. It shouldn't be too tricky. I burn alot of meals so if anything tastes strange he will probably think I just messed up the recipe again. :) So any suggestions are more than welcome! Just think of hubby as a kid who hates his veggies.

Today.. its nice out so I'm walking on my lunch hour, going to the chiropractor again to get popped back into place.. again. If it doesn't take too long I may have time to go home and workout for a half hour before getting little man. Maybe.. if not then I will workout tonight even if I have to strap him to my back and use him for weight training. So far.. No soda! No candy yesterday. No oreos.. And I peaked at the scale to discover a 2 lb loss!

FullaBella followed by DairyFarmersWife. Such a treat for me today. DFW, I have one (bf, not husband) who abhors veggies (and doesn't eat meat or fish to boot). I know the feeling. At least I can get him to eat fruit in between the junk food (no soda though...thank goodness). Does your DH like fruit? Maybe that will help if he can take a few of those along with him. Can you make his lunch so he doesn't have to go for a sub? Or try to fill him up enough (maybe with nut or trailmix snacks) so he doesn't resort to the quick fix? Nice workout and nice loss for you. Congrats.

I have a similar problem. I make veggie loaded soups & casseroles. Even if he picks some veggies out he still gets their juice.

Farmers are soooo stubborn and they never do anything wrong!! And yes you're right, it takes something to give them a scare but after a week, they forget and go back to the old ways!! Good for you, going for a walk today...it helps break up the day. And that's awesome news that you down 2 lbs, congrats!!! Glad the hear the chiropractor (bone cracker is what I call him!!) is working for you. See, your DFW Madness is the best challenge!!

Helewis - The tricky part with hubby is he is home alone. I make him breakfast because otherwise he was coming in the house at 11 and eating everything in sight. The subs he makes himself so no control there.. I will have to try and get some high protein snacks in the house and see if that works. Right now the only fruit he will eat is a banana. At least if it's a banana it isn't an oreo. I think this weekend I will try and make a healthier cookie for the house. Maybe then I can put some apple sauce or something in it without him knowing.

Buffy LMAO I will have to remember that trick and the result when I see him picking out the veggies which I know he will do if he sees them! lol

Darn hubbies!! If it were you you'd be getting a lecture from him, I know that would be the case for me. Good for you on the loss and not giving in to those temptations!!

Love how you will be adding veggies to your hubby's diet! LOL. Hilarious!!! My hubby and I are doing my birthday challenge. He hasn't walked the past two days (I asked and I'm staying on him)...so that means he WILL be walking on Sat and Sun. I just wish he would push as hard as I do sometimes. I have serious concerns that he's just complacent where he is (despite what he says) and that's it. But I try to not read too much into it and just keep pushing forward. He's doing so much better than I am with the meal replacement shakes. I just keep wanting to chew something...like wings. I want wings today. Sigh. It happens.

I just started eating some veggies and I still find most fruit questionable. Non veggie eaters have radar. They KNOW when their food in contaminated. Puree does help. It was the only way I would eat my veggies in soup. Good luck making him see the light!

My BF always get a side of nuggets with his large meal as well. I thought he was just weird. Glad to know there are others out there like him....in denial & all!

I sometimes shred carrot, zucchini, or add baby spinach to meatloaf. There is no picking it out. Pureeing a bunch of veg when making thins like stews, chilli's or tomatoe sauce really hides how healthy it is too. He hasn't figured out that my meatballs are not all beef but a combination of beef, pork and chicken(all extra lean) .., in sauce he can't tell the difference. It does feel like having another toddler in the house but at least my babes eat there veggies without having to hide them everywhere.

Hidden veggies.. haha. Good luck with that, men are so stubborn. Actually, women are just as bad who am I kidding?

Congrats on the loss! I must have found your two pounds and added them on to me! Maybe your hubby needs a doctor to shame him into good health habits? Mine did and that is what got me to change...

Would it work if you told him he has to set a good example for the kids? If he doesn't eat veggies they won't and that may cause them health problems later in life.

Hiding beetroot in chocolate muffins is the easiest thing to do :). Nobody has detected them yet & they are fluffy, moist, just yummy. My courgette cake is a hit too, although people question the green things in it. I tell them they are pistachio nuts. It works :)

Cauliflower in your mashed potatoes is very easy to hide too!
