How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I weigh myself most days, and keep track in a spreadsheet. I don't update FatSecret every day, though. It works for me because it keeps me thinking about being healthy. I always weigh in the same way, at the same time: right after getting up, after going to the bathroom, no clothes. Still, it jumps around a bit from day to day, but the general trend is what I'm interested in. I don't expect it to go down every day, and I don't try to associate my weight one day with what I ate the previous day. I try to keep a longer time horizon, and that works for me.

Looking to buddy up with someone that has a lot of weight to lose. I have joined weight watchers and
Hi Sandra,

I'm looking to lose about 100 lbs over the next year and a half or so. I'd be happy to "buddy" with you! What did you have in mind?

Recipes from Phone App
I know this has been asked before, just wondering if there's any new info on it. To use my recipes on my phone app, I've had to use a bizarre workaround:

1. Create the recipe on the website.
2. From within the recipe, add a serving to my food diary.
3. Create a new meal on the website.
4. Add the recipe, via "recently added" link, to the new meal.
5. Delete the serving I added to my food diary.

I can then access the recipe by adding that meal to my diary. But without this workaround, I can't find any easy way to gain access to my own recipes on the phone app.

I REALLY hope I'm just missing something basic and there's a better way!!! Seems like this has been an issue for years.

Mobile App Vs. Web version
Hi,

Welcome! I'm just starting out here as well. I used myfitnesspal in the past - the interface is a little easier to use, I found, but it's plugged up with ads and runs VERY slowly on my phone. I like FatSecret, BUT there are some frustrations, like the recipe problem.

I don't know if others have a better idea. What I've settled on is using the "Meals" feature on the website to add certain recipes, especially if I tweak them from day to day (like my smoothie).

For recipes that are set in stone, I enter them on the website as a recipe, then add that to my diary as a food item from within the recipe screen itself, then create a meal with the same name, adding just that recipe to the meal, from the "Recently added" section, and finally delete the food item I added to the diary. It's a bizarre workaround, but for me it's worth it. If you have a lot of recipes though, and are often entering new things, then myfitnesspal has a better interface for that. Just be sure you have a high-spec phone, and upgrade to premium to get rid of the ads!

Otherwise they seem to work about the same way. I've had good success in the past with apps like this, losing 20 or 30 lbs.

Ever tried mindfulness meditation? I've found that's helped a lot too. Jon Kabat-Zinn, Full Catastrophe Living, or look for a local MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) workshop. They're usually once a week for eight weeks. I've found it helps with being able to bring some of my unconscious habits (like stress eating) into consciousness!

All the best!
