I am a 55 yrs young woman with an empty nest, loving husband and crazy work schedule.

I've been eating healthy all my life. That still did not stop me from gaining weight in my forties and now I have trouble losing what I gained.

I love cooking, food, farmers markets and good restaurants.  Food is one of the joys of life. Losing weight does not have to be about starving yourself or eating blah diet food. It is about making smarter choices in life, nutrition being only part of the equation.

I love walking, hiking, swimming, days on the beach, in the mountains, anything that brings me closer to nature.

I do not believe in calories in, calories out, but I know from past experience that daily logging and support from weight loss community can make a difference. This is a life long journey and I am looking forward to sharing it with you all.

Need Motivation
We ALL get stuck at some point. We ALL lose motivation every now and then. We ALL get sabotaged and discouraged by our friends, family members, coworkers and sometimes even by our weight loss buddies. We ALL have events in our life that we cannot control. Some of us give up, some of us don’t. Even if you don’t give up, that doesn’t mean that you will reach all your goals and become perfect. It will only mean that you are working hard to improve your health, life (add what is important to you). You worked hard to lose 30 lb, if you give up now, you will gain them back. Adjust your mentality and let your body adjust to the weight loss. Keep working on healthy habits: gym, portion control, etc. Add another goal to your list “I will not let my coworkers have any impact on my weight loss”. If you don’t give up now, you will start losing weight again. Like with everything else in life, the choice is yours.

Migraine ideas
As CBD oil becomes more popular and available, please remember that it interacts with prescription medications in the same way grapefruit juice does, only the reaction may be more pronounced. You can accidentally overdose on your prescription medication. Interactions with grapefruit juice are now well documented. Ask your pharmacist if you can drink grapefruit juice while taking your medication. If you cannot, you cannot use CBD oil either. Some of prescription medications used to treat migraine will interact with CBD oil. At least mine does. I researched this topic extensively when I was considering if I should try CBD oil to relieve migraines. Decided to stay on prescription medication for now.

New member ... dieting education needed!
Protein shakes are a great idea but please skip nonfat milk. Fat free milk has ~13 g of sugar per cup. Not a good choice for diabetics or people with pre-diabetes. Unsweetened almond milk has no sugar in it. Fat free milk was even quoted in some research as one of the causes people develop type 2 diabetes. We remove fat which makes milk whole food and turn it into soft drink that is just slightly better than fruit juice. Then we drink too much of it because it is lower in calories. Please don’t jump in with comments that I am trying to vilify sugar, we are on pre-diabetes thread. Good luck to you. Not all people with type 2 diabetes can manage it without medication but it is sure worth trying. Edited to add that fruit should definitely be in a rare treat category until you stabilized your symptoms. I would recommend for reference. It is not calorie tracker but a database of all foods that give a much detailed break down of nutrients. For example it does not only give you carb count but gives you breakdown between types of sugar if available.

The Instant Noodle Mystery
You have to be very careful with prepackaged food. The calories are usually listed per serving, and 1 package can contain odd number of servings. In this case 4.85. It is very seldom that 1 package = 1 serving = calories on the package that you don’t need to multiply by some number. Also keep in mind that if a serving has less than 5 calories, it can be labeled as 0 calories. So you can eat 10 servings of something that is labeled as 0 calorie (sweetener or condiment, etc) and consume 50 calories instead of 0.

For those with insomnia can recommend reading FDA guidelines for food labeling. Not sure you will be able to read the whole code, but some pretty interesting information there.

Keto Cramps
Try magnesium oil. It is not really oil but magnesium in liquid form that you rub on your skin (legs in your case, though you can rub anywhere avoiding eyes, etc) like lotion. It can feel a bit itchy. If you cannot keep it overnight because of that, wash the residue off in half an hour. You might also be deficient in potassium. Try to add food like celery to your diet. It is Keto friendly. Unlike magnesium, it is not safe to supplement potassium. It is better to get it from food. If nothing helps, talk to your doctor.
