I graduated high school in 1969 at 98 pounds soaking wet, always ridiculed for being skinney. Then I got married and had a child and it all went south. I've been dieting ever since..for 40 years..yo yo..up and down, up and down and up up up.

I've been to 234 several times and lost 50 to 60 pounds only to go back.

well in May I found out I had a blood sugar problem, and I have a vision problem from that and have had neuropathy really bad now for dozens of years.

I have to do something..a friend suggested I watch the film "Fathead" which I rented from a library and I bought the book "Good Calorie Bad Calorie" by Gary Taubes. Then I learned that all the instruction I had gotten from drs, nutritionists, government, etc. were all false. I had been told a healthy diet was plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, how I had always eaten.

Now I know better. It is all a lie. Carbs will kill you, cause you Type 2 diabetes, neuropathy, and vision problems.

In May I began a low carb diet without proper instruction and lost 18 pounds..but when I tried the adding carbs back in like after induction in Atkins..I gained it all back in 4 weeks..

So I knew I was doing somethings wrong so I went out immediately and bout the Atkins book (when I began on here) and started over with the best instructions I could find, the New Atkins for a New You book.

Immediately I lost 10 pounds, getting nearly everything back off in 2 weeks that it took me only 4 weeks to regain..and then I hit a wall of 8 days of not a single pound lost. That was scarey, but after changing up a few things, 2 more pounds quickly fell off and I'm sure I'll lose the rest. I started out with at least 100 pounds to lose, but I set a shorter goal of reaching 140 by my 40th wedding anniversary Jan 28, 2011.

New to Atkins
it gets kinda hard to wrap your head around being able to eat fatty foods and not being able to eat fruits..esp when you were on a low fat diet and ate a lot of fruits and whole grains like I did.

I'm still struggling, however, I have lost a lot of inches..I exercise 2hours a day and am following atkins..but I know I am still eating more calories than I should..but when you drop 3 pant sizes and your clothes fit better and you have tons of energy, I guess the scales aren't that all fired important to me anymore

diet coke and weight gain
after the new years we had some diet coke in the house, caffiene free, and I just gravitated to it..hadn't been drinking it for a number of years except occasionally in the summer

well I piled on 5 pounds in about a week..

I couldn't figure out what the problem was and then I thought, maybe it is the diet coke..so I stopped drinking it..immediately ..in 3 days the weight gain was gone.

I'm wondering if the artificial sweeteners in the atkinds products and the splenda I occasionally use are not also contributing to slower weightloss..I'm going to try using up the atkins products I have on hand and limit my artificial sweeteners as much as i possilby can and see if that also makes a difference.

Atkins on a budget?
try breaking out a slow cooker and filling it up with some cheap cuts of meat and some herbs and seasonings..when you get ready to eat fix a salad or some vegetables with it..generally you can make 3 or 4 meals of meat out of a slow cooker full, for 2 people...and it is easy to pop into a container if you need to take it for a salad at lunch.
