Find a way of eating that works for you! There are plenty of different types of diets, whether it's HighFat-LowCarb, Weight Watchers, South Beach, or simply counting calories and portion control. What works for one may not work for you, but there IS a plan that will work! Welcome to the Fatsecret community!

at 75 and a life long dieter, i can only say,"yeah, what they said." It just takes determination, honesty--kidding ourselves is how we got big, right? Calories in, exercise and good sleep, as well as being consistent. Find what works and do it. I am a high protein person because I have type 2. Low carb veggies and low carb fruits and high fiber and high protein have helped me get my blood sugar scores right down in the past two months. They say after 20 lbs off, exercise. Exercise is necessary for good circulation and muscle as well as to help you metabolize better. They say it even helps mental acuity. Good luck to us all. Fighting bad habits isn't easy.

Welcome! There's lovely, generous support here, whatever WoE (way of eating) you choose, and however your path may lead through different approaches. --- I see value in starting by logging everything you eat in the food diary here, before and truly before making any effort to modify your eating. Finding your way around the site / app and figuring out how to log food is already challenge enough. You'll get to the choice of WoEs once you have an overview of what you're doing now. --- Hot tip: follow From333to184 or whatever his name is; he's full of tips on using tools when starting with a lot of room for increased physical comfort. Glad you're here!

Count calories, exercise daily even if it is 20 min per day and set goals. I've done mine in 10lb increments. the big picture can be overwhelming. I make a goal. celebrate and you know what your next goal is. I am working on my last 10lbs.

I'm new on this app and the advice I've heard is this: eat lots of fruit and veggies, try to walk or bike daily, drink lots of water (I've heard half your body weight recommended per day but I'm not sure if that's right) I'd recommend drinking water before a meal and/ or before snacking to make you less likely to binge.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome!! I'm logging my food diary & weigh in daily so I can't kid myself. The 10 lb goal is a good idea! I have RA & the inflammation seems to be playing havoc with everything so counting calories for the next 2 weeks & then see what makes sense. I've asked a coworker to be my walking partner for 15 min 2x day so that's my starting plan! Here we go!

Welcome! Use a scale you trust, whether you weigh in daily or weekly.

Welcome aboard. I have been here a few months. Log all that you eat and drink. Do not weigh every day. Once or twice a week is sufficient. Daily weigh ins lead to crazy thoughts. A pound or more up could be sodium and we start beating ourselves up. Good luck!

Don't just do a KETO diet (there are others out there that aren't as expensive). Eat more veggies, less meat. Count calories, eat fibre, exercise. Don't stress, quit drinking, quit smoking.

Hi Silver, I've lost 35 pounds since January and it keeps going down about 0.9 lb per week. Fat Secret works to keep you informed about calories in/out. I find that if I keep my net calories below a -1500 (the numbers for me range between -1500 to -2000. I can see a definite correlation between net calories and the amount of weight gain/loss per day. I keep an excel spreadsheet with all the data including fat/muscle %. (What do you expect from an engineer....) Interesting that if you watch what/how much you eat, you lose weight! Lots of fish, very little pasta, but still like a burger W/O the bun once in a while. Stick with it and good luck! Walt
