kingkeld's Journal, 29 February 2012

So, as I had an hour wait at the school yesterday, between job no. 1 and job no. 2, I decided to take a look at my buddy list, and possibly do a little house cleaning.

I removed a lot of buddies, and it made me sad. I basically went to look at when people were active last time, and took off those who have not weighed in for several months. I think this should be a fair way to do it, as this will remove people who isn't using fatsecret anyways.

Now, this is important to me: If you read this and realize that I took you off, but you'd like to stay - please just send me another buddy request. I still accept anyone who's interested, I just needed to de-clutter.

What was a little upsetting was the fact that I saw several people who have been VERY active here, who were doing good, and who simply stopped. I see a few frustrated journals, and then... nothing. I guess they quit.

There is no super easy way to do this. There are no miracles. There is only effort. If we want to reap the results - and they're beyond worth it! - we gotta put in the work. It's as simple as that.

However, I saw so many buddies that were doing so good. Then I see them gain for a few days (or weeks) and instead of shaping up and taking the challenge, they gave up.

Buddies, please don't let that happen! We pretty much all know what needs to be done - it's just a matter of doing it! When things get tough, talk to your buddies. When things are easier, talk to the buddies who need help! We're all in this together!

So, how did I do on the scale this morning? Well... guess what! I am now back in the 70's! Today I weighed in at 79.5 kgs! I hope I can stay this time, though I'm sure after Indulgence Day I will have a little peek back into the 80's. I'll be okay with it, as long as I know that I've done okay. Just gotta make sure that I WILL BE DOING OKAY.

Indulgence Day this week comes a day early, this Friday. It's Daughter's 18th birthday, and we're going for sushi with some friends. The sushi itself I'm not worried about. It's great food, very fulfilling, and relatively low on the calories. What concerns me is the soy sauce. Sushi without it is no fun for me, but it has so much salt! Normally, I let the sushi soak a moment in it before having it, but I think I'll need to rethink that. I think I'll have to simply drip a little sauce onto it instead, so have less. I don't want to gain 2 kgs of water overnight just because of that.

Let's see how it goes.

Today is an easy day at work. I have no face-to-face interviews. I have a few done by phone, but those are the easy cases.

A day totally different from yesterday, which was VERY stressful. I had to do some tough calls, and those are never fun. I got through it though, and my work mentor assured me that I was doing the right thing, so I can deal with it. Sometimes we need to push people in the right direction, and they don't always see it at that moment. Hopefully they'll see it later.

Today I'm thankful for:
- early morning exercise bike ride.
- an easy day at work coming up.
- a GREAT night's sleep.
- morning coffee.

Life is good!

It is sad when cleaning up your buddies list. I have messaged quite a few people on mine who were once active users and heard no response. I like to think that they just got to busy or perhaps found another program that may work better for them. The idea of giving up, especially when I know how amazing this "support group" is, is so sad. I don't think I would be this close to my goal without all of my buddies. It's crazy. All from different states, countries and continents and we all motivate each other somehow. It's truly remarkable.

I know for a fact that I would not be the skinny b**tch that I am today without Fatsecret and my buddies. I wrote to so many yesterday - I hope to at least hear from some of them. I doubt that it will be many, though. Sometimes I just wanna grab the ones that are doubting this and scream at them: IT WORKS! GET YOUR BUTT GOING! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!! ...but of course, I waited for 40 years myself. We don't do this until we're ready. Almost ready won't get us to goal. Dedication is key.

Interesting points. I have been on Fatsecret since April of 2010. I have come and gone more than once. Sometimes months or maybe even years. I know what works, counting calories, and for me this (fatsecret) is the best place to do it. So yes, if I am not active here, no big deal. I am probably out getting fat. However, this time, I am more focused, and am doing it longer. Good points to ponder.

Whoop for, getting back in the 70's...... Sushi OMG bl**dy fantastic - I can relate, about the soya sauce though - mmm love it and use it at home too. I keep meaning to seek out the low sodium one - but somehow can never find it. I do however try and limit he amount I use. Do you live the wasabi too?

LOVE wasabi! I want it burning with a vengeance! Hmmmm... I never thought of a low sodium soy sauce. I wonder if I can find it here? Stores are kinda limited on "special" products, unfortunately.

Congrats for being back in the 70's!!

Very nicely put journal today. I think someone should come up with a soy sauce spritzer.

Relieved I made the cut!

Keld - a long time ago, I deleted about two or three pages of old buddies who had dropped out of the journey. It took such a long time, that I gave up. ;) Now, I use it as my own motivation of sorts. Of course, yes, it does make me sad - but every so often, I go back and look at them, sometimes go back and read old journals from an old friend - I pray for them - wish them well, and thank God I am not them! Not this time. I will not quit! I will never QUIT on myself ever again. Perhaps one day they will be back.. and I have had one or two very special friends who have come back.. and I haven't pulled any punches when it comes to telling them giving up on themselves is not ok! It's just not an option you can afford to accept for yourself. But then the year of weightgain, and the depression of starting over...generally sends them back off the site again in a matter of days. Again - it just reinforces my own commitments to myself. Not actually sure where that comes from inside, but I will not quit! And now that you are where you are... neither will you! The big question is ... is there some way to help others see they can really be here too! or is it all from inside of them? ok - off to go encourage some real live buddies who are here fighting the good fight! Much Love.

Phew....So glad I made the "cut!" I really enjoy reading your thoughts everyday...even if I don't always comment. And of course I am so grateful for your help and advice for my own weight loss :)

Can't remember when we became buddies but I'm glad that I'm still here. I was one of those who disappeared for a while. Life just got so complicated and I couldn't focus on me. Coming back renewed my commitment for a healthier life style. If I don't take care of myself first how can I take care of my family? Thanks for keeping me and for all the advice and encouragement you give. BTW. welcome back to the 70's!!

LOL, please don't be scared to "be making the cut or not". Again, if I boot someone and you wanna come back, just add me. No biggie. Adding me again shows that you'd want to be here, and that's good enough for me. The ones I am letting go are those who simply aren't here. It can be hard to determine here and there if they are active or not, though. And JSfantome, it IS good inspiration. Let's not end up in the stack of "used to be here". :) Thanks for this encouragement. It's a great way of seeing it.

FYI: Low sodium soy sauce tastes terrible! I am currently on FS for the forum - always interesting. And for my buddies' journals ;-) I'm using BodyMedia Fit's website for my calorie and weight tracking. I have a new project: after several years of consideration, I am studying to become a certified personal trainer. I'm excited and I'm scared! That's an ok combo for me!

Keld, if it wasn't for you and my other buddies, I might not have lost as much as I have. Frustration can be handled so much better when you have comrades to share it with and a place to put it into words in order to let it go. Thanks for the inspiration, keeping me on the list, and all the encouragement!! Looking at older pix of you, you are a completely different person! Way to go! I am hoping to have way more "after" pix myself...

i am very glad I found your journal and that you added me as a buddy. I find you so inspiring and a good writer to boot! Thanks for sharing your story here. :)

It really is sad to see people doing so well and then just disappear from here. I've only been on FS for a little over 2 months now (using it every day makes it feel much longer, I actually had to give that a real good think!! lol), but I've noticed that a couple of people I was talking to from the very beginning have already just disappeared. It's so sad! I can honestly say though, that if I didn't have such strong connections here, I would have probably done the same. I think the only/best way to avoid foods with too much salt is probably to never get into them in the first place. My brother, who was blessed with the "skinny gene", drenches EVERYTHING in soy sauce - he even uses it as salad dressing!! I watch and have a heart attack for him (before thinking about how skinny he is and hating him for it hehe). Sushi is my absolute favorite food in the world though.. I love tuna & salmon sashimi (33 calories a piece, ya can't beat it!) with TONS of ginger and a dab of wasabi. It's so good! And then a cup of miso soup to start is nice and filling.

light soy sauce. EWW! YUCK, spit! I take wasabi and smear a thin layer on the Tuna (love tuna), then I layer the ginger so I get some in every bite, then I mix some wasabi in the soy sauce, then I dip the rice side and bite! then I get a head rush from putting too much wasabi on it. Slows down the eating. I don't have that many buddies, but I made my profile private when I found it hard to keep up on my buddies journals. I love buddies and want more and will accept all! Thanks for being my buddy, buddy.

This is a rocky road I get why people give up...I pray I dont..I look forward to the journals..I read the good news and the bad.. hoping to gain some insight and know what to expect..thanks for not deleting me.

I absolutely agree with your sentiments about buddies that have disappeared - it's so sad, especially the ones that were really struggling and then are gone - I can't help but think that they haven't made the changes that they need.. If I ever get to the point where I "don't need" FS anymore (and I can't see that happening because I just really like the sense of community), I would make sure to post a big journal entry to explain why I was leaving and make sure everyone knew how much they meant to me, but that's also because I've made a really GREAT group of buddies on here and can't imagine just stopping contact (and would be heartbroken if they did that)... I'm pretty much addicted to this site and my buddies - I'm on here numerous times a day - I find it much more helpful and productive than Facebook!! :) I think you have a great plan for your sushi - I've only had it once and didn't use soy sauce.. hmm.. now you're making me want some!! And of course, CONGRATS on being back in the 70's!! :)

MMMM sushi with wasabi and soy sauce....a bit of heaven! Like Lizzie, I LOVE the wasabi and put lots on the sushi, but I just sprinkle the soy sauce over the top of that...sooo good, and actually what I am treating myself to on my birthday (in April). I haven't had any in over 2 years! lol It's gonna be good!! Congrats on the 70's again. Have a great day!
