mskestrela's Journal, 03 September 2016

Well, well, well. Very interesting... I've been listening to my body again. No, not the gurgles and rumbles. LOL!
So, for the last week or so, I've had beans on my mind. Refried, pintos, beans-n-ham hocks, and my favorite, bean with bacon soup. Last night, I decided that there's something in beans that my body is craving. Since legumes are "slow carbs", and do a nice job of feeding the gut bugs (something I've been paying closer attention to lately), I figured I'd open a pint jar of my home-canned bean with bacon soup. My appetite has been in the tank lately, so I figured I'd only eat a small bowl.
HA! Reconstituted, it made about 3 cups, and I ate ALL of it! It was SO good, and my body was like, "YES! This is what I need!!". It was the first time in months that I felt FULL, not just satisfied. It was also the first food that I felt like I could keep eating without throwing up.
So, here's the interesting part: While I fully expected and accepted that it would throw me out of ketosis, it didn't! I checked the keto-stix before bed, about 3 hours after eating, and it still showed moderate ketones. This morning, it was back in the deep purple. Wow! 3 times my 'allowed' carb count, and I'm still there! In the past, if I went 5-7 grams over, I was out for a couple of days. Healing is happening!
Then, this morning, I fully expected a gain, and lo and behold, it's a loss. Not huge, but a new, 30-year low.
And all this after 3 days of sitting on my diminishing butt, doing no exercise.
Today was a slammed day at work, with no breaks. My BPC did its thing, and I had plenty of energy, clarity and focus, and still haven't eaten for the day, at 6 PM. The carb-fest didn't create more hunger or cravings. I walked right past a Dunkin Donuts box at least a dozen times without even a twinge. :)
To top off the day, a little NSV: I bought 2 Old Navy tops..and they were Medium! And they were at Goodwill, for $3.99 each. Still had the original ($27) tags on them! They fit like they were made for me.
It has been a VERY good day!

I think I stumbled on part of the answer to the bean soup surprise. In Jason Fung's latest blog, there's a chart of an "Insulin index", and one of the tagged dots happened to be navy beans. They have a lower insulin impact than white fish! Crazy, huh?

Great Job!!! Always a great feeling to lose. I know the feeling, this is my first time since 2009 weighing in the 360's. Keep up the great work.
