Mousy1109's Journal, 11 July 2016

Not a huge loss, but I'll take it!!! I was a little bummed when I first weighed in this morning just because I am only a half a pound from a total of 100 pounds lost. But, then I got over it! :D I am pleased proud to celebrate my 99.5 pounds!

I called and talked to my husband's cousin yesterday. She had weight loss surgery one week after I had made the decision to give my own weight loss struggle one more try. At the time, I was frustrated with my failed attempts. I had even contemplated having the same surgery. I am, however, so glad that I decided against that surgery!

I started my weight loss focus on Sept. 14th of 2015. Since then, I have lost 99.5 pounds. My husband's cousin had her weight loss surgery on Sept. 22nd of 2015. She has lost a total of 75 pounds. It is not that I view our weight loss as a competition, but it is really nice to see that I could be successful without having the surgery. Having the side by side comparison has helped me to have a visual aid that I would not have had any other way.

My mom, my best friend, my cousin, and my cousin's best friend have all had the weight loss surgery as well. My mom and my best friend both lost a significant amount of weight immediately, but then started gaining it back after about five years. My cousin never really lost too much weight, and then started gaining back what she had initially lost even before the first year was over. Those that don't actually know her would never be able to guess that she had the surgery at all. Her best friend (who had it done at the same time as my cousin), initially lost her weight. I just saw her yesterday and it is obvious that she has started gaining her weight back as well. It hasn't even been two years yet since their surgeries.

I always thought that surgery was the easy way to get the weight off. Boy was I wrong! It may help you to shed the pounds, but it is only through lifestyle changes that you will be able to keep it off. It still has to be worked on and maintained...and you still need to put in the effort.

I say all that to say this... Never give up! Never doubt yourself or your personal strength. Desire more than the easy way out. Just because a path looks easier doesn't mean it will be. Be willing to put in the effort. Be willing to be focused. Embrace the challenge. Find your determination. Hold yourself accountable. Adjust your goals as you learn to succeed. Don't be afraid to try a new way when your current one is obviously not working. Be open minded to the advice that is coming from a success story. Never settle. Know your worth. Never give up!!!

There are so many ways to work on your weight. We all have to find the way that works best for us as individuals. I am so appreciative of those on here that have helped me to find the path that works for me. I am also appreciative of all the members on here that give support and encouragement day after day, and week after week. FS truly is a community! It is one that I am proud to be part of!

I am pre surgery I have been talking about this with my nutritionist, keeping the weight off, has been my issue, using the surgery as a tool rather than a fix me does not fix you if you don't work on change. We are LCHF eating at our house due to medical issues with hubby but hey we both are losing weight and he is angry as he likes not to be a skinny guy. So we all have problems that seem tame compared from the outside in. You should be very proud, very very proud you have changed your life for the better now go drink your water to flush that last bit out. Congratulations.

Thank you, everyone, for your support and kind words! It really does make a huge difference to have a family of supporters cheering you on along the way. You are absolutely right, Robin. The surgery has to be looked at as a tool, not a fix all. I am finally able to understand that at this point in my journey, but I don't think that I knew that 10 months ago. Even my WOE is just a tool now. You are doing things right if you are consulting with a nutritionist and planning for the maintenance portion of your journey. I find it to be especially motivating that you are changing your eating habits (not just yours, but your family's) prior to having the surgery. It sounds like you are prepared and you are setting yourself up for success. I love the quote "life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it". Our attitudes and mindsets make all of the difference in our ability to succeed.

Great success! I hope anyone considering weight loss surgery reads your testimony and has second thoughts, it can be done without resorting to such drastic steps.

What a wonderful testimony ☺ Congratulations on your achievement so far! I am biased against bariatric surgery. There is a better, safer way. It's just that you have to crawl like a rat through the internet maze to find it. How did your weight loss journey start and did you change things as you went aling?
