skydiverjim's Journal, 19 August 2021

I made an entry last night, but it appears I must have been so tired I never saved it. I have to go back and make sure the comments I made on some of your posts were saved too - WOW, I had no idea I was so tired out. Well, I ended up gaining a lot of weight for just a week of not paying attention to what I was doing nutrition wise, but it is time to get back to business. SO here we GO! I will post some of the vacation pictures for a few who asked. First thing I have to ask, does anyone know what this is? It photographed in South Dakota. I thought it was just a storage building – my assumption but when someone started asking question, I really wasn’t sure at all. Can anyone enlighten me?

It looks like a cyclone burner for wood debris.

Welcome back Jim, you were missed sorely. Can’t wait to hear stories of your adventure. Sorry I have no idea what this conic structure is… I thought it was a tepee⛺️🤣

I'm with Tom on this one. Or a really, really BIG smoker. ;)

I think it may be a Dalek. Probably best to call Dr. Who before it disrupts the space/time continuum.

That sounds great a cyclone wood burner. Cool

that's not too bad a gain for vacation. I plan on gaining more than that on my cruise next week 😜

Gastropod is correct. Most definitely Dalek.

Thnx for that Ian. Respect!

That's a beehive burner. Lumber industry used to have them all throughout BC Canada, but they are outlawed due to environmental impacts. They burned sawdust and debris that I believe is now recycled. Lots of it used in composting for soils.

@gastropod, I recall being fairly young when I was first watching Dr. Who and the Dalek always freaked me out. 😰

Yes! A beehive burner! I looked it up too. Very interesting looking. I prefer Ian's and gastropod's conclusion that it is a Dalek! :D

I was told these also can steam power the mill.

Thank you all - after Tom's suggestion, I looked it up and there was a picture of one that looked just like it along with other variations. I thank you all for the input. Thank you all for your comments and supporting words.
