SherryeB's Journal, 29 December 2020

This has been a pretty laid back week....well 4 days since Christmas. Hubby has a cold and I may be getting it, too. I don't feel bad but I have a runny nose (started this morning). Often after Christmas I feel a bit tired & lazy. Usually the lead up to the big day is busy I'm very active. So when I slow down to catch my breath, I feel it. Although cold symptoms can also be Covid symptoms neither of us is having any breathing issues or fever. Hubby is feeling worse than me, but he insists he doesn't need to see the doctor.

His appetite is off so he says tuna sandwiches for dinner will suit him just fine. Makes it easy for me. I made chicken noodle soup with veggies from the fridge last night. We both had 2 bowls & I was quite full after.

I have been averaging a couple thousand calories & my weight has remained stable. I fluctuate up & down a lb. but have remained below goal. I haven't even walked for a few days. I still have goodies in the pantry, fridge & on the kitchen counter. I have been nibbling away at them but continue to weigh, measure & log everything. I guess after Jan.1st I'll have to evaluate how many calories I want to eat daily. I know I should be eating mostly healthy choices so some of my treats may last a long time! Cookies & similar snacks have actually lasted me quite some time for the past year. I still have a package of oreos I bought a few months ago. As long as I'm logging & weighing daily I'll know if I need to cut back somewhere.

I do need to get back out & walk. Since Hubby is my walking buddy, I may have to go without him. He's still doing his morning walk with the dogs but I don't do that one.

Planning to go early vote tomorrow. I'm in Georgia....so have to vote in the Senate run off. I'll be happy when it's all over. We get bunches of paper in our mailbox 📬 that could probably be eliminated. Pretty sure most people already know who they're voting for.

I've been trying to watch all the important stuff on my DVR before we cancel DirectTV middle of Jan. I don't think I'll make it thru 30 something episodes of Criminal Minds 😐 I may watch the 2019 season of So You Think You Can Dance....maybe. Funny, I set up stuff to record, that after awhile seems unimportant. Now I'm trying to set up our new streaming app to save the really important stuff...the shows I watch within a few days....in the "Cloud". I hardly watched TV during the Summer. I spent time outside. Now it's colder...although this afternoon was in the 50's....so I'm spending more afternoon "Sofa Time".

I'll start to take down & pack up the Christmas decor after New Year's so that will get me up & moving again. Right now I'm still enjoying the lights 😀💖

Off to make dinner...for the 🐶🐶 and us 😊

SherryeB— what did you do for Christmas? Several of my friends who did the Christmas get together thing have now developed “cold”. 3 went and got the quick test and they are all positive along with who knows how many other people. Don’t assume this is a cold. Stay home or go get tested

If you can in your area, it could be worthwhile for both of you to get tested just for peace of mind.

What kind of streaming app are you going with, if you don't mind me asking. If you're not comfy posting here I understand. We are thinking of cutting the cord because our bill went up $64. Time to renegotiate or do something different. It's crazy how much it cost! I hope you both feel better soon!!!

Bear, it's Kinetic TV. It's through our internet provider. We were able to upgrade our internet & they offer the TV service. Our satellite service was going up to around $165 in Jan. We were able to get Kinetic for $85 a month & that includes all the channels we get on DirectTV. We don't have any premium channels (like HBO) but do have Amazon Prime Video & Netflix. (That's seperate)

Thanks Sherry! I've never heard of that. I'll have to check if we have it in Oregon. When I retired 2 years ago we went with Frontier and we got both internet and cable for $130 the first year then $144 the 2nd year. Now that our contract is up it went to $208!!! That's insane to me!!! We don't get premium channels either. I'm shopping around. Getting an antenna this week. Maybe we can live with just local and Netflix until we decide what to do.

Bear, the $85 is just TV....we pay seperate for phone/ internet service. I think that's around $100 if I remember correctly. We had a deal on our DirectTV, too but they kept raising the cost & wouldn't negotiate any discounts after AT&T bought them. We maintain a land line because of our rural location & weather outages we have had in the past. We left AT&T cell service about a year ago for Consumer Cellular. That cut our bill in half, too. Our service still uses the AT&T cell towers, we just don't pay any more 😄 As retirees we have to save where we can.

Yes, gotta find those savings where we can. Before I retired we were paying $300 for cable, internet and phone. I was able to cut $100 off that by shopping around. It's too bad we have to keep renegotiating. If they will even do it as you found out some wont.

I dumped everything but internet last year and have found plenty of free content. I do have Netflix and prime. I stream to the TV from my computer for the news when needed. which is not often lately.

We hardly watch regular TV anymore. Mostly Netflix. So I want to try an antenna for local and see how that works.

I have a few network shows I enjoy watching. Hubby likes to watch football & sometimes I watch with him. We also watch news, HGTV & Nat Geo. Our main entertainment for the past year though has been Netflix.
