I've been trying to lose weight off and on since I was in High School. Funny thing is when I look back now at photos of myself over the years, I was thinner than I felt like at the time and had a pretty cute figure. Fast forward to today....I'm a 64 year old (in Sept.2019) wife, mother of 2, step-mother of 2 and grandmother of 6. I married the love of my life in 1992 and we're enjoying retirement together. I enjoy gardening, amateur photography, home decor, fashion, books, music, cooking and travel. I worked for 30 years in Retail Mgt. so was fairly active on a day to day basis. After early retirement in 2006 my love of good food eventually caught up with me and I found I weighed more than I was happy with. I didn't feel good physically and was dissatisfied with my appearance. I had dieted before but I realized I needed to have a lifestyle change. I think my top weight was around 180 lbs. Enter Fat Secret.... I lost 30 lbs. and maintained that for a little while. I learned more about portion sizes and did a lot of nutrition research. But, for whatever reason I fell back into old habits and gained again. So...over the years I've used the Fat Secret App for a kick start to take the weight off again. In July I once again found myself heavier than I like or should be. I actually eat healthy meals most of the time but find myself snacking, having seconds when I shouldn't and indulging in "another" glass of wine a little too often. Previously, I allowed myself to eat the 1600 calories a day the App allowed me and made sure I left room for wine with dinner in my meal plan. This time I decided to not have alcohol every day and to eat around 1200 calories most days. I did a totally alcohol free July and kicked the habit of wine everyday. I also made my diary public and started reading other diaries. Maybe I'll get some good info.

First of all set a reasonable goal weight that you can maintain after you reach it. I like to eat and I like my wine with dinner. I am not "skinny" but I feel good when I look in the mirror. Then commit to the fact that this should be a lifestyle change...forever...not a diet.
The greatest help logging in what I ate was it made me aware of portion size and how many calories are in many foods. Now I try to make healthier choices eating more fruits, vegetables and lean meat & fish. I keep lower calorie snack items around so that I don't go crazy. Example instead of ice cream I buy low fat yogurt or sherbet...and I use a half-cup bowl to serve it in. Sometimes all I need is a taste to be satisfied. No food is off limits but if I know it's high in calories I try to limit myself to a small portion. I started with Fat Secret in March of 2011 and met my goal (a 30 lb.loss) by December. I stopped logging my foods but tried to maintain the same mindset. I did well for a long time but I did gain 7 lbs. toward the end of 2012 so I'm back to logging in my foods to lose that. So far I've lost 2 of those 7 lbs. but have fluctuated up and down 2-3 lbs. since then. I know if I got more excercise I'd probably easily lose that last 5...I exercised more when I was losing.
