Boring day today.

It's tomorrow that will be the true test: to see if I'd stockpiled enough calories the first 3 days of this week to carry me through the other 4 and still have another killer workout!

Then, the finale: Sunday's weight should wind up back down around 156-ish. That would indicate I gained about a pound of fat all week, but officially burned it, leaving behind an almost solid (small) 100% muscle gain 🤞

** FUTURE PLANS **

Recently, I've been asking myself, "what really is my goal?"

Originally, the answer would have been to grow more muscle size. As I've been working out for a couple years now, I've begun to rethink my goal.

I'm still a skinny dude and I haven't grown much, but that's okay. It takes a long time and I know the size will come with years of practice.

However, given the choice between skinny with low body fat (looks) or getting better at lifting with a bit of fat gained (strength), my answer is - by far - gaining strength! I can always trim down later.

I'm just really sick of being stuck at mediocre with what I'm lifting. About a month ago I did a complete 180° turn from hypertrophy (muscle size focus) to working on gaining strength and I find it much more rewarding and satisfying, personally.

The problem, I've come to realize, is that more strength requires more calories for fuel and recovery. Basically, if I wanna get stronger, I might hafta get a little chubby; but if it means breaking records and doing what I haven't been able to do thus far, I'll sacrifice. Gotta get past my fear of fatness 😊

Strong - to me - is functional. As a design major, it's been drilled into me that "form follows function." Thus begins the design of the powerful engine and I'll worry about the style of the car's body later.

Standby for stronger! 💪

you have certainly given it some thought ... functional strength, i think, is important. most important. i like your approach. my guess is you're probably way stronger than i am, and most, given your attention to it. knowing what your goal is, and if you are happy with that, is all that matters. good luck. we will be watching for reports.

That’s awesome, can’t wait to read about the results. A lot of people want to “turn fat into muscle”, (myself included) and it seems that you figured out how to do just that. It’s amazing how much work, effort, and planning (and not to mention experimenting) goes into it, so thanks for sharing your journey so we can learn from you. I was a design major too, so I agree that it’s not only about aesthetics - there is beauty is strength and function. And I happen to fully agree that strong is better than skinny even if that means you sacrifice some leanness. My skinny friends actually tell me that it’s hard for them to put on weight even if they eat more calories, so I get that it’s not as simple as “eat a burger=grow a booty”.

Chris, speaking of goals. Sadly, we are probably not doing the pizza tonight. It's 92 outside, all restaurant dining is outside and neither BF nor I are feeling the sports bar pizza vibe. Gonna wait until the heat wave breaks.

What about carry out, Katsolo? Weather will NOT hinder my pizza eating. ;)

BF knows my food cravings are very specific and often mercurial. I'm just not feeling the baked potato on top of pizza thing today. Gelato... hmmm... I know a guy. Also could go for some good seafood. We'll see. Hoping the temp drops with the sun.

Big chunk of salmon on deck. Gonna be good. Currently watching irreverent documentaries. Going to take beasts on a very short walk because it's still 90. Ugh.

Chris, all your progress is major goals. It’s amazing that you were able to create such lasting changes. It’s clear that it takes an insane amount of work and dedication to transform yourself in this way. It’s one thing to lose weight, but building muscle and strength is a whole other challenge. 💪🏻 And I hear abs are made in the kitchen, but booties are definitely made in the gym, so take you pal D’s advice and get to those split squats, my dude!! 😆

I don't know what I want either cause one second I want abs, the other I am enjoying eating more and lifting more. I think that I will try to average 3k for a while. Lifts are increasing slowly to where they were pre covid. Size is coming as well.

Humans have all sorts of flaws. The seven sins. Pride is pretty common, maybe even as bad as gluttony. If you worked for it, flaunt it.

Yeah- I definitely like to look for progress- not huge into pics and if I take them- they are for me and sometimes him if I am looking for an honest opinion- sometimes for FS if I want compliments. Maybe the better you look, the more you feel the need for people to say so. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Not to that point- hopefully never will be.
