I had a helpful revelation today as I was on my treadmill. One was thinking back to this week's episode of The Biggest Loser- they had Dan (425? lbs) run 6.8-7 mph for 30 seconds on the treadmill. Now, this is a challenging speed for me at 139 lbs. Wow, that is really pushing him and he did it. I usually run around 6 mph, and increase or decrease speed as needed. I do usually hit 6.8 for one part of a song, but then bring it down. I thought, if this guy who is very obese can do that for 30 seconds, I absolutely can go for longer. So I kept up the speed to 7.2 mph for several minutes and was at least at 6.8 for 5 min. This is what I keep saying that we are capable of pushing ourselves more than we think we can go. In part of my run I was getting tired and thought "I can't go anymore." Then I said, "Oh yes you can!" and I went longer. I really think there is a lot of truth in believing in yourself to reach your goals and you CAN do them, even if they are hard!

So, anyway, I had a good run for a total of 4 miles in 40 minutes, plus another 10 min, walking cooldown. I pushed harder in my first 2 miles and did 9 min. miles there. I was pleased with this run as I have being doing other exercises the last week. My knees are feeling much better with the break.

Hope you all have a happy, healthy weekend.

Great job pushing yourself to go the extra mile... literally! Your revelation is so true. I guess that's why people pay for personal trainers because we are less likely to push ourselves when we are on our own. Yay, you!

When I heard them 6.5 miles an hour on The Biggest Loser, I tried it myself the next day. And I couldn't run that fast. I'm really impressed that you are able to do it at all, as I was impressed with the contestants on the show. I'm gonna go back and try it again. Thanks for the inspiration!

Nice work showing that treadmill who's boss! I keep trying new inclines and speeds, even if it's for just a short time. I haven't been up to 6.5 mph yet, though! I'll give it a try!
