AllAboutAlish's Journal, 10 May 2018

Today is the second day I have been using this app. It’s a real eye opener as far as how much my caloric intake is each day! 😳 my gosh I had no idea the amount of calories I consume...! I’m trying to lose 7 pounds that I gained when I stopped smoking 46 days ago! My eating habits haven’t really changed nor has my activity level or anything else in my life...these 7 pounds just appeared over the past 5-6 weeks! I’ve always been the type of person who could eat anything and everything in quantities that were more for an NFL linebacker than a 5’4” 46 year old petite girl...but now it seems that the “junk food junkie” part of my life has caught up to me! I’m struggling to stay within my 1400 calories and hoping that this app, reading everyone’s daily posts and trying the recipes you share will keep inspiring me!
113.2 lb Lost so far: 2.8 lb.    Still to go: 13.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Welcome to FS. Doing that logging of intake is indeed an eye opener and so very important IMTLHO. With the information gleaned there you can craft a plan to move to where you want to be and hold yourself accountable for what you are doing. In addition to looking that how much (the cals) you are taking in, look at what the cals consist of.. the carb vs. fat vs. protein ratios. Your post smoking bod may be processing things a little differently now. You can get a handle on things.. You can do it!

I was the same way, in my younger days. I could eat a half a pie and not gain. But those days, for me, are gone. But keeping track of the food i eat as the day goes on has been good for me. And I have a treat once a week. And I love the support from this board.

So cool you are getting a handle on it early. I was up 80 lbs before I started and it went up so fast, within a year, and I'm over 10 yrs getting off that extra. FS is a great tool of self discovery! Good luck!

When I first started using the app, I logged a lunch that was typical for me before I started my weight loss plan, and it was nearly 2400 calories in one meal. I realized then what was making me so fat! I wish you success, you can do it!! There is a ton of support here and some really knowledgeable and helpful people. Good luck!!

It wakes you up to portion sizes. That is the most important thing to take into account when counting calories. It taks time, but you will learn to identify what portion sizes are reasonable. Except for fast food. Its hard to judge, therefore, best to stay away from.

It's so hard to feel like your'e doing something healthy for yourself as you begin to see weight creeping up. I am tempted still to this day to grab a cigarette to curb my appetite, but I haven't smoked in almost 5 years. I wish you luck with kicking the junk food habit. It took me a few months before I could really stick to clean eating. You can do it! Congratulations on quitting smoking and starting to eat healthy! You're gonna feel great!

welcome and congrats on giving up smoking! If you already have a fairly good metabolism remember sometimes it just needs a kick start, more activity more exercises. Best to you and your new healthy endeavours! ox

I never smoked, but I was pretty much 155 lbs until I was in my mid 40's. I than slowly gained 37 lbs over the decade. Attack the weight gain now when it is relatively a small amount or maybe a few pounds plus or minus your goal weight isn't bad. It will take a while getting to the idea caloric intake. I went from 1800-2000 to 1300-1500 calories. Good luck and don't go back to smoking.

Welcome and 7 lbs or 107lbs losing is just hard work but the important part is keeping it in check when you get there, this is my second go around and the last time it was hard in my mid 40s lost 100 lbs just to gain it back and then some after I quit smoking added another 20 lbs so here I go again, Now I take thyroid medication who knew it would slow down as you age? that is mostly why OI gained weight back says my Dr. But I did not want to take pills and now I do so I can keep going down in weight and up in spirit! I love it when someone joins just to lose those few lbs that just appear makes the rest of us realize it can happen to anyone.
