Not all calories are equal....Dates and figs for example are high in calories and carbs... 3 dates or 5 figs have about the same calories as a flour tortilla... BUT those calories are not equal at all... the tortilla has little nutritional value and zero fiber... dates are loaded with fiber and potassium... figs have the same and some iron to boot... those carbs are not bad for you at all... so when you snack on a calorie budget..., CHOOSE wisely! ....It's little things like this that helped me on the way to losing so much weight.
248.6 lb Lost so far: 213.4 lb.    Still to go: 58.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

The old cal in cal out guys refuse to believe this, and there seems to be a resurgent on that philosophy. Yup, good cal that will ad weight loss, and bad ones that help put it on.

Adamevegod1 whole it is true that calories are calories ... what comes WITH those calories is crucial. When it comes to carbs.. especially sugar, fiber is the key. There is a huge difference between 500 calories of chocolate cake and 500 calories of dates. When it comes to the cake that stuff is going to move through your body VERY slowly and every bit of those calories and glucose will get absorbed. Whereas the fiber in the dates will push it through your system fast and less calories will actually be absorbed... in fact if you eat 500 calories in dates, chances are your going to give yourself the trots... all sugar in nature comes loaded with fiber for that very reason... it moves it through the small intestine so fast that some of the sugar gets missed... yet all the nutrients like potasium, iron, maganese, et. get taken in... of course that chocolate cake will give you none of those nutrients... it's probably going to sit in your system twice as long and probably constipate you as well... and that's why not all calories are equal.

Or you could skip the dates and the chocolate cake and have an avocado instead. There's no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.

Calories will always be the primary factor determining weight loss and weight gain, when written on paper... that’s when the minor and major factors come into play internally, which makes a big difference between 200 calories from a donut vs 200 calories from a piece of lean meat. Guaranteed both will do different things in the body, one will supply better carbohydrates, one will supply better protein. Now what happens when those 200 calories from either source is consumed, can have a determining effect on the body, so, example, the meat will have the benefit of the higher thermic effect from protein, so if the majority of calories are made up from that, vs the carb/fat being primary In the donut, then there’s more likely a chance that some of those 200 calories will be burned off from the meat more so, and muscles will benefit from higher protein intake, than the donut... but the donut, may provide better fuel from carbs... decisions decisions

But the majority of Western dieters, basically just eat the donuts, followed by more donuts, and McDonald’s cheeseburgers 😋 so the SAD seems healthier than the reality of what is.

Blowing 3000 calories in one sitting three or four times a day or more illustrates how people get so fat. I suppose that's why I don't mind cutting certain things out for good doesn't particularly bother me. Pastries and coffee are cheap, I used to go through a box of poptarts and a pot of coffee twice before noon. Or Little Debbie, Hostess, Mrs. Bairds, etc. Crazy shit.

adamevegod1... nope didn't misread your comment. I got where you're coming from and was just further pontificating. I agree with you as well. Been reading up on the actual science of all this lately... I highly recommend Fat Chance by Robert Lustig... or watch his YouTube lecture "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" where he talks about how important it is to not eat processed or refined sugars... but he's not down on fruit as he explains what fiber does and how it affects sugar going into your system. I always read the hard science and get to the truth... I'm not into this keto ooga booga or any of that. There are no magic formulas... just good foods and crap. Just work to burn fat and build muscle or sloth to grow fat and lose muscle... ;)
