Not all calories are equal....Dates and figs for example are high in calories and carbs... 3 dates or 5 figs have about the same calories as a flour tortilla... BUT those calories are not equal at all... the tortilla has little nutritional value and zero fiber... dates are loaded with fiber and potassium... figs have the same and some iron to boot... those carbs are not bad for you at all... so when you snack on a calorie budget..., CHOOSE wisely! ....It's little things like this that helped me on the way to losing so much weight.
248.6 lb Lost so far: 213.4 lb.    Still to go: 58.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

When I eat sweets it takes me three days to break the cravings. This past Christmas my wife brought home two, two layered boxes of chocolate (about 50 pieces each. In two separate settings, I ate both boxes by myself, and didn't slow down from the first piece until the last was gone. I have no will power, just the will power to not bring it home. My wife doesn't get it, but thn she has zero regards for her or my heath. :(

@Murph; I eat natural, unrefined, and unprocessed foods, except for starchy vegetables and high sugar fruit. I don't particularly care for fruit so I only eat grapes and berries occasionally and in extremely limited quantities. Fruit is natures candy.

Another book I highly recommend is Younger Next Year. He gets into how our ancestors lived... We were Hunter Gatherers for a very long time. Notice how fruit is a summer to fall phenenomem. That was our hunting season... When hunting you need to run FAST hence they made use of the readily available glucose. Remember when your heart rate gets up to 70% and higher you trip to zone 3 and 4 and you STOP burning fat and your muscles run on pure glucose. You can apply that principle today... When you work out REALLY hard. Say a 4 to 5 level aerobic scale workout. That glucose gives you the extra burst to really set records.
