BryanOnALaptop's Journal, 28 February 2018

I actually started my journey mid Jan 2018 but needed something to better track my calorie so I u got this app early February.

My journey started at 233 lbs just to support my wife in her calorie counting life style. While I could have lost some weight, I really didn’t feel the need. But I thought it would be good to support my wife and keep her motivated as well as getting something out of it in weight loss myself.

So I was down 5 pounds when I first started using the app and now I’m down to 213 at my last weight in. TWENTY (20) LBS IN LESS THAN TWO(2) MONTHS!

It’s actually been fun. The struggles to find low calories options. Trying to beat the daily calorie count.

Now I’ve been doing 1200 calories a day because that’s what my wife is doing. That’s way too little calories for a 40 something 200+ lbs 6’ 4” male, but I manage. I have had only 2-3 very bad days. Super Bowl Sunday which was by choice. The other days out of Hunger.

I almost documented my journey via video but wasn’t sure how long I’d do it, but when I seen my wife getting motivated and wanted to stay on course more because I was doing it as well, I realized I should have did the whole before and after thing.

I think I’m down a couple of waist sizes in pants, so my causal fashion belt is not being used to seriously hold up my pants.

I didn’t realize this app came with a community until I started seeing people support my weight-ins (thanks for that!)

So I think I’ll start using that part of the app more.

Just wanted to say hey to everyone and hope my little journal entry/ manuscript inspires or motivate someone.

Until next time, happy calorie counting.

Good for you for supporting your wife, but why not get a calorie count that is more suited to your size? You must be so hungry! I do 1200 as a 5-3 female and I am hungry some days!

Actually, Most if the time I’m not hungry. But OH boy I have my moments 😂. I do plan on going to 1500 and then possible 1600-1800. But for now I’m doing ok.

Hey Bryan you are amazing, I just want to point out that the recommendation for minimum calories for women is 1200 calories and men is 1600, if you are too low you can develop problems with your gallbladder and other things. Spectacular job supporting your lady, you think that you could talk my husband into downloading the app too? 😄

I read a book, written by a nurse, that changed my eating habits (easy read too). She has since written another (not read yet). The 1st book supplies some recipes too. She keeps it simple with a common sense idea of don't struggle to eat foods you don't like; forced = not stick with it. And she explains the why and what foods are better choices so a person can eat out or go to parties and not have any issues of weight gain. It may be something you two may like to read & try out. I fell off the eating healthy wagon a few years ago and slowly gained it all back. I'm starting tomorrow back on, and never falling off the wagon again. Book I read was, The DASH diet weight loss solution: 2 weeks to drop pounds, boost metabolism, and get healthy. written by Marla Heller, MS, RD

Hello Brian, like Abbadabba I did 1200 calories and am a 5 4 woman. I did a quick calculation for a 45 male, 6 4, starting at 233 with light activity and it came back with 1800 calories for pounds a week weight loss. If you want to change the age and activity level, to get more precise, go to Calculator.net and under fitness and health the daily calorie RDI calculator is there. The one here on fatsecret doesn't seem reliable, as determined by me and others here who have complained about it.

Whoaa! I wasn’t expecting so much response to my journal entry. Thank you all for your responses. To respond to a lot of what people said, My wife is doing great on losing pounds. She is on course to meet her weight loss goal. She does not use the app though. I just stumbled across it to help me track my calories and discovered so much more. I am aware that I should be eating way more calories for my age/ gender/ weight and height. And at some point, I will get back to the range I looked up for myself (Which is somewhere between 1800 – 2000 calories depending on the person/ site/ book.) I don’t plan on staying at 1200 forever. But If I Can do it, even if its just for a few months, that lets my wife know that she can do it. Thank you all for the support.
