What happens when you cheat on a low carb diet? Last night I had 79 grams of carbs. 🙁

It was yummy, but now I am trying to figure out what may have happened to my ketosis.

Thoughts?

Hi Eluna, You will likely see a bump in weight due to water retention. Get back on track and the weight should drop off in one or two days. That has been my experience at any rate. No need to panic or try to overcompensate, just get back to your eating plan.

I can go as high as 30 net carbs before I get kicked out of ketosis. If you went back on track immediately it may not kick you out. Do you use a ketosis meter?

I do not have a ketosis meter, but I do have the ketostix. I just check, and while I am not as high as I was, I am still in ketosis, just a bit. Thank you for the help though!

it be gone, sometimes if you slip in slightly you can take some ACV and it will help not spike so high( insulin/sugars) but If you are doing lots of activity, you can eat a fair bit of carbs and not be affected. If you are watching tv, then only a few could make the difference, 79 you would have knocked yourself out..unless you did some major exercise that day.

That's good now to bring them up exercise helps too many carbs and too much protein will kick you out. Good luck you can do it!

don't forget forgiveness, we all slip up sometimes too. Just don't give up.

I use Pruvit supplements to keep me on trace even when I slip up.

Cheating on a low carb diet once isn't too big a deal. Depending on how far into keto adaption you are it'll take you a day to three (at least that's my experience) to get back into ketosis. This also depends on your exercise regiment. If you aren't trying to get into ketosis, then one or two carb binges every week or so aren't any big deal. Try to follow the 80/20 principle and be compassionate with yourself.

Start your new day as if it never happened - move forward, don't look back. Guilt and regret will kill your motivation - I know.
