moogiemynes's Journal, 17 December 2017

This is an expansion of a comment I made on another’s journal:

Watching the home health care nurse rebandage my sister-in-law's foot has convinced me to avoid sugar. I have pictures of the wounds, the gangrene, and the amputations. Sugar is a poison that we do not need.

It is addictive and uses the same receptors as heroin. One of my sisters gave me sugar-free candy as a gift this year. Artificial sweeteners have the effect of throwing me out of ketosis, and reigniting sugar cravings, so I am regifting it to those who think such things are OK.

Do not think that I am someone with iron will. NO, after about fifty years of succumbing to temptation, I finally found what stops it for me!

Most people think that sugar is that white stuff that comes in bags and boxes. Some expand their definition to corn syrup and the large number of funny names that manufacturers use to hide processed sugar. Actually, sugar is the thing that carbohydrates become in the human body. Therefore, when a person restricts sugar, they have to restrict all grains, honey, agave, and anything else that converts to sugar in the digestive tract. This includes excess protein, which the liver converts to glucose.

There is no nutrition found in fruit that cannot be found in vegetables, and fruit is overwhelming with sugar. “No added sugar” on a package of fruit means that it is still overflowing with sugar. My diabetic brother-in-law and I keep the peace by not talking about food. He follows the American Diabetic Association diet that has about 200 grams of carbohydrates per day in it. He takes a lot of insulin and lives in fear of crashing. I take no insulin and no Metformin for the ten to fifteen carbs I consume per day. Keto makes me feel good by keeping my blood glucose steady. Weight loss is merely a bonus.

My sister-in-law, the one with the missing body parts, claims to be on the Bulletproof diet. Bulletproof allows higher carbs one day per week. Every day, however, she has a banana because the doctor told her to get more potassium. I told her to eat broccoli and spinach instead, but bananas are sweet and full of sugar, and diabetics are addicted to sugar. She cannot drink unsweet coffee, so she puts raw sugar in it. Raw sugar is still sugar! By design or by accident, she is adhering to the standard diet for diabetes. It is killing my husband’s sister. It is killing my sister’s husband.

It will not kill me. I shall eat my bacon and eggs, (naturally cured bacon with cage-free eggs from bug-eating fowls), Chicken Cordon Bleu, and keto curries. My grandfather ate like this, and he lived to be 105. He did not have any of the traditional diseases, like heart disease, diabetes, or cancer. He just got tired of not hearing well and quit breathing. I plan to be like that, once I get rid of this diabetes!

moogie KNOWS! I learned very quickly that people will not hear you if they aren't ready. Sadly some people will never be ready. They may listen but they don't hear. They look but they don't see.

Sad that it took others' pain to motivate you - glad for you, sad for them.

I hear you my brother lost both legs then the diabetis hit his heart and we lost him. It's a sad ruthless disease. I try to keep my carbs under 20grams per day. Your sisterinlaw needs a new doctor if he's telling her to eat bananas! She can get use to drinking coffee without sugar, she should have nothing in it but fairlife skm milk. Carbs are sugar she needs to watch those as well. I agree Happy they don't listen till its too late!
