One of my friends who lives in Savannah has a connection to an all-organic farm nearby. They free range beef, poultry and pigs. Before she went the last time, she asked if I wanted anything, and I said yes...bring me a slab of pork belly.
I've been seeing all kinds of recipes for braised pork belly, and they all look mouth-wateringly good.
Last night, I tried one of the recipes with about 14 oz of it. It's an authentic Chinese recipe that includes light and dark soy sauces, Chinese cooking wine, honey, star anise, Sichuan peppercorns and stick cinnamon. OMG, was it good!I cooked it in the crock pot for 6 hours on low, and all of the flavors infused the pork completely. I'm in love with the sensations of Sichuan pepper!
This is a dead slow week at work for me. So far, I have one client booked. Where is everybody??? Oh, yeah, they're all coming in next week. :/ I swear they all get together and coordinate which week to stay away, and which to slam me.
Bills are going to be touch and go this month, what with losing work from Irma, and some people being away. *sigh* As long as I can keep the lights and internet on, I should be ok.
On another note, I saw something in one of my Facebook groups that gave me pause. A woman said she found out she wasn't getting enough protein, and her hair was falling out. I rechecked my macros for the last few months, and I'm WAY low! My minimum should be around 65-75g/day, and most days, I've been in the 30-50g range. It probably explains why my hair hasn't needed to be cut in over 2 months. :/
So, now I have protein powder on my shopping list.
Still figuring this out....
Wishing you all success,
~Kes

Sometimes just a drastic change in your eating habits will make your hair fall out faster. Just like the apoptosis (programmed cell death) cycle within our cells, our hair follicles do the same. The difference becomes much more apparent when you change your eating, because more of your hair will fall out faster, and the new hair will start coming in. I have read quite a bit of this because my hair has fallen out a lot as well. I have always had pretty thick hair and I feel like it's half what it used to be. But, I see a lot of posts that say after a year or so you really start to notice the difference in it coming back. To me, that makes a lot of sense, considering how slow our hair grows. At a 1/2 inch per month, It will take half a year just to see 3" and that would be if the new hair started coming out immediately when the old hair fell out, and we know that there is some time in between that too.

Glad you enjoyed your pork. I'm sure my husband would like that. He's getting more vegetarian meals from me these days, poor guy! Sorry about your slow week at work. Hope things pick up for you soon. I'm trying to get 55g protein a day in my diet. It's difficult for me without protein shakes.

My friends made a fantastic Korean recipe for pork belly when I was in Iowa Labor Day weekend. I will try to get that recipe for you. It was really wonderful.

Oh wait, I wanted to tell you about protein powder: Quite a while ago, I got a recommendation for a protein powder called Unjury, which is "medical quality". It really worked for me when I first started this diet.
