Whew, what a day.
First, a follow-up of yesterday's tempura experiment. Mild ketosis this morning, it didn't knock me out. YAY! Weight up .3 lb...but I also had 2 meals yesterday instead of my usual 1, so not unexpected. If there's going to be a jump, it'll come tomorrow, most likely. So far, so good. BUT...if you've been following my experiments for a while, you know that Kes can NOT eat wheat, and the product has wheat protein isolates and vital wheat gluten in it. So while it doesn't have the carby parts in it, it does have wheat products. Today, my lower legs were slightly swollen, and my belly was bloated most of the day. My typical response to wheat. Dammit!
TL;DR: I had to redo and expensive treatment for free.
Most of my bud...err...Followers... know that I do hair. There's a smoothing treatment that uses the same protein that hair is made of, Keratin, to straighten and defrizz curly hair. It's an awesome process, and actually strengthens the hair. It's also ungodly expensive (the product is $200 for a 16 oz bottle!), and very labor-intensive. It takes me a minimum of 3 hours to do one, and can take as long as 5.
ANYway, I have a client that I've been doing it for, for about 5 years, with no problems. It usually lasts 6-9 months. I did one last month, and when she came in last week for a color touchup, I noticed the waves were back, and it was a little frizzy. When I washed her hair, I could see flakes throughout it, not normal for her. I put 2 and 2 together, and figured out that the treatment has been flaking off! So today I had to re-do it, almost for free. I couldn't ethically charge her the full price, so I just charged the product charge. There were 3 possible reasons it had failed, but no way to pinpoint which it was. The first is that I used the last bit of an old bottle, and it simply wasn't good any more. The second is that she washed her hair before she should have. Clients are supposed to avoid getting the hair wet for 72 hours after the treatment. I suspect she forgot that, and washed it too soon. I couldn't ask her about that without sounding accusatory or blaming, so I let it slide. The third is that I got sloppy, somehow, when I did it. As I mentioned, it's labor-intensive, as I have to flat iron the hair in 1/8 (50 mm) inch sections, stroking each section no fewer than 7 times. Did I forget to count the strokes? I don't remember. So, whatever the reason, it cost me 3 hours of hard labor, and a precious 2 oz of product. *sigh*
On a happy note, I'm going to visit my sister for my birthday in a couple of weeks. She lives just outside Orlando, and she is treating me to a day at Disney World. I LOVE Disney! We firmed up plans today. I haven't seen, or really talked to her since our Dad died 3 years ago.
Wishing all my Fabulous Followers (and everyone else that reads this) a Wonderful Wednesday night!

Good for you doing the right thing, but I don't think I would have not asked about the washing!

Have you tried flour that doesn't contain wheat? I am experimenting with lots of different ones in the moment: Rice, tapioca, gram, teff..... Oh Disney world. Love it but haven't been in a lifetime (25years)....have fun :)

Kes you are such a beautiful soul. I really think your lady washed her hair before the three days was up. Felt it for you with this today.🌼 It's a moral dilemma. X

I also feel she washed her hair too soon and maybe was flat ironing it as well. Or maybe went swimming? Just from my personal experience...after that it gets frizzy again. You are a great person to do it again! Have a great time at Disney!
