It's a bad day. One of my coworkers is so frustratingly incompetent. I can't handle it. We've been racing through a new product launch, and he had an important job to complete. I find out this morning that it's not done. I stop by to ask him what's going on with the issue, and he just smirks and says that he wasn't asked to do it, and he doesn't know who's leading it. Mind you, he has been in every project meeting, which occur weekly.

I lost my shit. I just snapped and said 'fuck it, I'll do it' and left. Unprofessional, I know. But it isn't even remotely my job. It's like he enjoys being an obstacle.

Totally unrelated to weight loss, just needed to vent.

Vent away .. bad days at work effect us all differently and could cause you to cheat and no one here will judge for needing to get it off your chest.. Just be sure you get the credit for the work done.. My job sucks too.. i get thru it by reminding myself. Work to live, not live to work .. and then I dream about the gym.. and take all that stress and take it out on treadmill.. You got this..

Suggestion, when I have an employee like that, I put it in writing and have them sign it. They can't later say it wasn't their job.

This may sound crazy, but here goes. I've learned to do the mind shift. I took the meanest, rottenest employee and started to tell her positive things about herself. Yes, I did find them. In less than 4 mos, she has become the most wonderful employee I've ever worked with. Now she would do anything in the world for me. I don't ask for much, but she has become very valuable to me. I knew if I didn't do that, my life would have been a living nightmare working with her. Now it's awesome!!

I had a coworker once who helped me keep a positive attitude by reminding me that "it all pays the same". I know it is frustrating when others do not carry their weight, and I fully agree that you need to be sure you get the credit for the work you do. The point is not to let it get you down, just get it done. Try not to carry it with you when you leave work though.

I managed to calm myself down yesterday and apologized to him for losing my temper and being rude. Asked him about his current workload and what I could help with to see if we can meet these deadlines. Left on good terms, but I know I need to keep at him in order to keep him on track. Sugar Waffle, I do love your tip. I'm going to try to be super positive when I'm around him and be sure to compliment him when he does get stuff done in a timely manner. It can only help!

@sugarwaffle that's a great idea. I'm so frustrated with an intern assigned to me that I just lose it even his presence makes me tense just Cuz he's so friggin lazy. I haven't figured out how to motivate him but I've never offered any form of praise.
