Debbie Cousins's Journal, 14 July 2022

YIKES! My daughter just told me that she's bringing me a ramekin of her creme brulee tomorrow when she comes to bring the kids. 404 calories! It will also be a pool day. No, I CAN'T just "not eat it." I want it. The challenge will be NOT eating a ton of other things that I would usually have as snacks throughout the day. IF I can do that, I'll be at 1,657 calories.

I reset my RDI back to 2,000 (after having set it at 1,800 yesterday) because I think it was a "trigger" for me to eat MORE today instead of less.

Why is satan so intent on trying to get me to fail in my eating plan? Reminder to self: "God will not test us above what we are able, but will, with the temptation, also provide a way of escape so we shall be able to bear it." Also, "His strength is made perfect in my weakness." And, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."

Claiming the promises of God's Word to get me through the rest of today, and through the day tomorrow without going off the rails.

@jengetfit123, she was supposed to make me some for my birthday (the week before I started eating right) - so it's kind of a present. @NAVYWIFESKI, yes, I want it, so I've already planned my entire menu for tomorrow. It will be a skimpy day, food-wise, but I think I will survive.

I know what you mean, Debbie. It will taste extra good though. I did that yesterday and was starving til I got my wings last night. Lol

Birthday presents do not have to be food. They can be a pair of earrings, an outdoor concert, or even offering to do a household chore for you. Is your daughter aware that you're on a diet? I think your temptation is already here: I would call her back and tell her thanks, but no thanks. Boundaries are good, and so is enlisting the help of family members to not sabotage your diet.

I always eat more on swim days w my granddaughters! Swimming makes me sooooooooooo hungry. Swimming burns lots of calories, that’s why!

Nothing wrong with having this loving gift as long as you've planned for it and do not let it throw you off your journey's path. Asking God's assistance is certainly good, but remember, God helps those who help themselves. Good luck my friend.

Girl you've got to find out what the kiddo's like as natural snacks like watermelon or grapes and make a big container of those for them to have on pool days. LOW CALORIES & good for them to boot. Help get them off the sugar addiction young and still be the cool Grandma.

Daughter knows you have been trying to loose weight in many drastic ways over YEARS and yet brings you cream brûlée? Thoughtful daughter with a “loving gift” or Trojan Horse

Like myself, my daughter gives homemade food as an expression of love. GIVING is a Love Language, and she speaks it well. She gave me several other "material" gifts for my birthday, as well. I've got my day planned around the crème brulee. I'm feeling confident today that I will be able to keep within my calorie parameters. Thanks everyone, for your kind comments and concern.

A more honest route to go is to admit a sugar addiction, and to ask for help from your family and other sources to beat it and regain your health. If someone was trying to quit smoking, you wouldn't buy them a pack of cigarettes for their birthday and equate that GIVING with LOVE.

"I say, ''Yes, Lord!'' Amen. 🙏🏽 Let God use you, Debbie Cousins. He will help you get through this and keep up the good work!
