Happy Monday Everyone - this is truly a great day - Alive day Number 609 to be precise. I had a beautiful weekend - taking my International Scout to the car shows and noticing how the food vendors are just not appealing anymore - the smell of sugar and grease turned me off. The funny part of the adventure was that there was a BBQ vendor...they had pulled pork (with all kinds of options - mashed potatoes...sweet sauce...mac and cheese...all of them together in a cup ) I asked for just the pork...no bun, no sauce...just meat and I didn't ask for a price break...or extra. They kept looking at me like I had two heads.I did get what I was after and it was a great low carb snack while I walked around the other cars. This is my first week off the metformin completely (still on insulin - thanks pancreas) and so far my BGL are pretty stable. We even went to a family gathering yesterday and managed all the food obstacle courses that were in the way. My lessons learned for the week is that as long as I am aware and make good choices I can maintain my blood sugar levels...maintain my weight and still have a great time in general society. I don't have to be a prisoner of my WOE. I get to live life today to its fullest...healthier, happier and stronger than I have been in years. This is in a large part because I have an amazing wife who is 100% in my corner, second is because of all the FS Participants who share their ups and downs so I know I am not in this alone. I hope you all find a path to enjoy your journey today - happy, joyous and free.

Note - The Picture is my Green Scout on the line in Downtown Reno...great weekend.

Good for you. Yeah, when it comes to those food trucks BBQ is usually my choice .. I've even learned to eat it w/o the sauce (high sugar in the sauce). So do you still have to take insulin via shots? I didn't understand the 'thanks pancreas' comment. I hope you BG holds steady. I am hoping some day to test letting the metformin go too.

Hi FullBella - yep I am on insulin - I have worked to only be taking about 1/4 of the dose from where I started...and My Pancreas is kind of a jerk... a few years ago it went on strike and it produces almost no insulin and then sporadically...so, it makes things interesting.

Super! My first car was a new 1974 International Scout baby blue, I really miss that vehicle :-)

I love Scouts...they are an awesome vehicle! One of my early boyfriends had a Travelall that was also sooo much fun!! You are lucky to have one!

Food is always such an issue in life for those who have to be so careful. Nice to read how far you have come and the rejoining of the enjoyment of life.

Tahoe— I subscribe to quite a few medical journals and newsletter. In one of them not long ago there was an article about a very small, tightly controlled inpatient study being done by the NIH (National institute of Health) on the affect that a variation of the keto diet might have on T1 diabetics. If the pancreatic beta cells can be pushed to resume a level of function. I don’t have any details as this was just a mention in the article. Also on the list of “do not try this at home”. New things are coming down the line all the time.

What year is that Scout? We had a white one when I was a kid. Sounds like you had a great day!!

Fritzy 22 - yes - this was Saturday afternoon. Kenna - thanks for the information - this is sort of what I am "trying at home"; working down my carbs and seeing how the system reacts...hopefully getting to no insulin added - but we'll see how it goes. Erquiaga - it is a 1969 - original Lime Green.

Tahoebrun, I learned to drive in our Scout. Can't remember what year it was released. Have a text to my brother for that info. Love the lime green.

Tahoebrun, it was a 1962 with sliding windows.

So, my brother says your Scout is the 800. Ours was the 80.

That is great - Mine is an 800a. this is my second one and the first one I really restored to original.

Very cool. My brother wished he hadn't sold the '62.
