From the little I know about losing weight after losing your thyroid, it's going to take a lot of experimentation before you find what works for your body. Give each way of eating a good three months before deciding whether it is for you or not. Good luck.

I lost the thyroid in 98 and kept weight down until 4th baby came along but have struggled to rid myself of weight since. NOTHING works. Ive done a lot of research and it seems a keto/fast 800 type diet is whats needed to bump start my metabolism. Im just glum cos its easter and everyone around me is scoffing chocolate....so unfair!! Also discovered that my scales are rubbish. 10 different places gave 10 different weights so they are in the bin and I have no clue what I weigh.

Yes my research suggested keto too but I didn't want to suggest a particular way of eating to someone else. Have you tried narrowing your eating window?

yes, with the exception of tea, I dont have any calories from 6pm to 9am. I know the milk in my tea is cheating a little but there you go

I know how you feel.I am on 1200 a day which is 200 fewer than fat secret recommends but I have only lost 4oz this week. At this rate I will be retired before I get to my target weight

I've no thyroid either and it's been a sod to keep the weight off. Variation of exercise 6 days a week and fasting on the non exercise days works for me albeit very slowly! I live in Spain so the temptation is high but you can walk for 5 miles to get a tapas if you put your mind to it. Experiment, ignore the scales and enjoy!

Be patient, keep on going. In a couple of days you might see a larger drop on the scale. Might also be water retention, if you can do as I do these days, one meal is 2 small poached eggs with 80g green asparagus and 15ml hollandaise sauce. The asparagus is a true diuretic. Happy Easter 🌷

I don't think a drop of milk is enough to spoil the benefits of fasting. If you feel able it might be worth extending that window and if you do decide to try ketogenic there's lots of support here.

Ketovegan I would be very interested to hear what your menu is like. Im veggie so have been put off by the meat aspect of it. Theres a lot of bone broth about! As it is Ive had to add tuna to my diet to make up the protein aspect of the Fast 800

Yes of course, my diary is public and I record every gram. There are two woeful days this week and which just shows that my children are home from university and I've put myself on the back burner but I'm getting better. I can't say what I think about the 'meat, cheese and cream' old Atkins diet in polite company. Rest assured it's possible to stay in ketosis and eat at least five portions of vegetables and fruit a day. x

Its easy done. My lot are home this weekend for a family wedding so thats going to be a total fail diet wise but ill be back on it Monday. We're camping too which is always a bit difficult. Baked beans and tomato soup are not good. However, I have discovered that Quorn bacon slices are low cal & carb so I can have that if nothing else. Goodness only knows what the wedding fare will be though. Family are farmers so it will be all home reared meat and some weird veggie attempt for us.
Had a quick look at your dairy and you keep your proteins way up there. I honestly thought id struggle.

Never worry about a plateau or even a slight gain. The reason 5/2 works is simple. With a constant shortage of food, your body is starved of nutrients, it will start to conserve energy, so weight will plateau. with 5/2 you are fooling your body into burning calories for the 2 days on low cal and by the time your body gets around to wanting to conserve energy, you eat normally again, so your body carries on burning calories at the same rate. Basically after the 2 weeks, stop the 800 cal as it is a short term measure and not considered to be appropriate for a long term diet.

Even on 800 calories it still leaves 462 calories for the rest of the day.

I decided to try the Jason Vale 28 day juice challenge and bought the App. Although I was very sceptical at first it is working. It might help you. There are many different types including a 5 day one etc. Cheer up. We all grind to a halt for a few days. Try a walk in the evening after dinner. I found that leisurely walking for 1.5 hours after dinner around 7pm helps me. It stops me snacking and I sleep like a log. Plus not eating anything for 15 hours except water helps your body digest your food and gives it time to repair itself. Good luck

My sister did that and lost quite a bit of weight, although my brother in law had to stop doing that as it made him poorly, but he did loose weight. Just goes to show that what works for one person, may not work for another.
